According to jibi.net (chinese site), there will be an official launch ceremony for 2015 Panda coins in Beijing on 24 October., 2:00pm local time.

Can't wait to see the new design and probably new denominations!

    Where's Yennus?

I've been researching how we can get pandas graded by NGC cheaply from Australia
Would be awesome if a member in HK could help us obtain the 2015 at spot :p

Thought they'd be out by now. Wasn't last years released late Sept? Will be interesting to see How straying from the standard will fare

"From 2015, coins will use gram and kilogram as measurement units and the 2014 Panda Gold coins will be the last coins measured by ounce. As the end of the "ounce era", they have high value in collection, he said."

They usually come out late October, and you sure as hell won't be getting them at spot!

Yes, October 24th. Came out September 29th last year but there's an 'event' this year.

I'm unconvinced they'll be any change. Will just be sold as 31.1g instead of 1oz. It is long overdue though. Ounces are a stupid measure in the metric world and the mix of ounces and kilos is just ridiculous.

I'd like to see maybe 3g, 6g, 12g, 24g, 48g, 100g, 250g, 500g and 1000g as the new selection. That way, under 50g and over 50g works is divisble in two ranges without doing half-grams. I'm sure others will have better ideas.

To the comment about buying at spot you can expect $6-$10 over and $6 over is cheap.

Haha jokes on me buddy...I guess it's possible to get Pandas at spot but unlikely unless the seller is not educated on Coins.

Regardless of premium paid for Silver Pandas if you buy and hold each current year you will do well 5-10 years later.

At first I had trouble getting over the premium...now I pay $300+ for 1oz Silver coins and sleep well knowing I made a solid investment...My Pandas have held value or appreciated...my other silver is a different story I don't want to talk about.

Interesting point... valid for silver panda only?

Gold panda on prior 1990 do not command much premium compare to gold lunar.

So basically the weights are just in metric now - so 31.104g coin instead of 1oz.

Seems a bit of a marketing fail :/

I have a vague memory of reading something about China melting down big Swiss 400oz gold bars to make smaller metric sized bars for retail sales. I assume this would explain the switch?
