It does look like the glue...in that case worth less than one without I'd say. It really depends on what you paid....if you got at bargain...maybe worth keeping, if no bargain price prob should consider returning unless the seller had clear picture of the 'defect' .
not good enough, send it back. Its a fault. If there were a choice of two one yours and one without the scratch I'd be buying the one without the scratch.
Did you put in the fridge; straight after you bought it? Must be off by now. That explain why those jelly are out.
I do not think it is only jelly. It looks like a scratch during manufacturing. Bought it from a dealer. Why put it in fridge?
I think chip is taking the p$$$ that's one mean scratch if the dealer is a perth mint dealer contact the mint and they will pay both ways and exchange from my experience.
It looks like the lip of the abalone to me and I think it is part of the design if it is metal. I doubt it is a scratch. If you like these coins then it is fine imo.

It's a manufacturing fault - I've checked it against some of our stock. Return it to the place of purchase or direct to the Perth Mint and they'll replace it. malachii
At the end of the day this Abalone coin will be much lower than its mintage of 5000 if one deducts all the imperfect coins due to manufacturing defects and also natural imperfections of the abalone shells. A lot of the abalone shells have natural imperfections like tiny holes on the edge of shell or small scratches. Another thing to take into consideration is the natural variations of the shell. Some shells are so plain that they barely contain any colour or patterns. While others are so beautiful with their multiple layering of radial lines and colours and some even have darker black spot that looks like an eye at the center of the radial line. The shell itself is truly a thing of natural beauty. It would be cool to get a page going too see all the various abalone shell.
I gotta say I think this one is a bit of a sleeper. It looks like being first in a series and sales have been very consistant for it. It's probably been our most popular seller (in the proof type coin range) since it was released. And we've had people buying 2 or 3 for Christmas presents for people which is also a good sign - people always love completing a set malachii
I received my abalone coins today. They are extremely beautiful. Perth mint did a good job with the design, size and thickness. I am tempted to get more.
