Received 2 ATB "P" coins from US Mint.

One have a hairy scratch, the other has a ding. Both are on the national park side.

Are those problem normal for the "P" version?

Never met this kind of problem on Perth mint bullions. Should I return?

I've found the mints quality control sub par with this years ATB P coins. I've returned 3 of each of the first 3 releases this year except for the Shenandoah which I returned 4 because I also returned one of the replacement coins I received.

This is a collector coin, any imperfections visible with the naked eye should go back IMO. If this becomes a $500 coin some day, you'll regret not getting it replaced.

To be honest, the "P" ATB coins I have from 2010 through 2012 I have not bothered to look at with a loupe. I started collecting these fairly early in my stacker consciousness...which is at least 2 years after the first release in this series in 2010. So, I was just happy to be able to get one of each issue in the OGP and I actually am not going to worry one bit that some may have minor imperfections. Besides, it's way too late to return those even if I spotted an imperfection. Some Americans still like to have coins in the OGP and not worry about having a perfect coin and not in TPG slabs! :)

That said, in 2013 I am on the subscription and I have started to become much more critical with inspecting any coins I get directly from the US Mint. Thus far, I've been pretty satisfied with the quality of the "P" versions I've received in 2013...I returned just 1 but I don't order as many as db23.

I am also on the subscription plan and get two of each. Mine have all been great, no issues at all. But if I did get one that wasn't right it would be going back.

Just worry about get another bad replacement, and waste return/replacement shipping fees on them.

    Thinking about return.

Found the "P" version coins are not selling well at ebay at all. May just buy NGC/PCGS certified ATB from ebay later.

Mind if I ask who pays for the return shipping? Buyer or US Mint?

    Have to call them tomorrow.
But it appears that buyer pays return shipping according to the return instruction on the receipt.

before for buyers who do the exchange, buyers have to pay first, then send in the proof of the return postage cost back to them, then get a reimbursement check several weeks later. Now sometimes they can send you a prepaid shipping label, you use the shipping label at the Mint cost
