I agree. All a bit underwhelming.

The new release 'Mickey & Friends' caters for many of our international markets, where there is a preference for coins with colour, and also for markets where there is more of an affinity with the contemporary versions of the characters. For those that preferred the retrospective or classic characters, don't worry, as in 2015 we have plans for new releases to build on the interest in the classics.
What you see here is adding a new branch to our Disney portfolio. There are a couple of other 'branches' that will be added in the coming six months as well.
    Hope this makes sense.

    Translation...

We found something that actually sold well and we're going to overkill it like RCM until the stuff out there starts to lose it's value.

No big fan for this coin anymore. Very disappointed. It charter for rich people who has money to buy six at one shot. It killing the series as my personal view.

Donald Duck gold and silver proof sales has went down so significantly as compare to the mickey.

I really doubt who will continue for this three years program which more and more will be out with 10K mintage each coins.

I seriously consider sell my mickey and Donald in few months down the road...

While none of the disney stuff has any appeal for me personally (Mickey, Donald, or this new set), i can see the appeal for this set of 6.
The characters are depicted well, and they certainly convey the 'fun' element.
I don't see why they should impact or dilute the appeal of the retrospective series.
The NZ rep has given a good account of themselves, above. And has stated a commitment to the series of classic depictions.

Thanks for the clarification. So seems like there will be more different Disney series. How we will know which coin belongs to which series(just for a collector perspective)?

I kind of agree v many more new "series" of Mickey & Friends, it will damper the appreciation of earlier release...

My sentiments exactly. They just killed the series. The Mickey will do well. The rest is a bust.

They will surely do Disney Princess coins at some stage; Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty etc., so I am sure that when they do, coins from the 'Disney Princess' series wouldn't get mixed up with coins from the 'Mickey & Friends' series by anyone...

...but then again, they might! :)

My Mrs just had her silver sets delivered and I have to say the mint has done a terrific job with them. The strike is first class and the design is very Disney.
While I wouldn't say there a numismatic money-maker, if you like Disney you won't be disappointed with these, and I'm saying that as someone that hates Disney.

Also saw the new Shakespeare coin and am buying one for myself. Very nice indeed. Ironically, I also hate Shakespeare. Bring on the Frank Herbert 'Dune' coins I say....

It is not a wise choice to release 6 coins at the same time.

I'm not a big Disney fan, can't stand it in fact, but the six silvers are very nicely done coins.

Releasing six 1/4oz gold coins simultaneously seems a bit of a stretch given all the characters are not equally popular. I'd have done a six coin set in acrylic with each coin at 1/10oz.
