So why are they bombing Iraq now? Do they need to liberate more oil?

Clearly just for oil  Perhaps, just perhaps they might be doing it for the reasons stated. If they didn't do anything and millions of people died at the hands of ISIL, they'd be condemned, if they do take action it's only for their own gain......

Well we can rule out them doing it because they don't want to be condemned, history has shown they don't care what anyone else thinks. This then leaves option 2, for their own gain.

Not Australia and the PMs we find in the gutter. Imagine if the whole world had to listen to Abbott. His daughters might become celebs though.

No bombing has occurred as yet, the spike is due to the announcement.

The next spike should be when the bombing is taking place.

Then again when the USA to goes into high terrorism alert mode.

The Russian problem is heating up even more.

Winter will be creeping in soon.

And don't forget about revised FED data coming through, this always seems to be bad news.

Sad to say it's all starting to look up for gold.

I don't get why silver is isn't moving much.

Gold $1321 US @ 4pm Adelaide time 8/8/2014, seems to be going up $1.50 per hour.

Yes please tell me where we would be if it wasn't for America? Germany would do a better job running the world then America. You only have to compare Germany vs America atm. One is dumb overweight and unstructured and the other is smart, healthy and structured.

Having said that no super power would be best, but Humans hey... what you going to do.

This would be the president that was handed the Nobel Peace Prize as a box of chocolates for being elected president?

Genocide never bothered them much before. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that IS is actually starting to threaten US oil interests and not just slaughter fellow muslims.

It's a bit of a problem really. I think they reason they haven't started bombing is because they've fingers in both pies and no matter which side they bomb they'll be taking out an ally.

My guess is they'll bomb the side that they're supporting covertly. errrr, the side that they're arming, ... errr, the side that doesn't have US mercenaries.. errrrr. the side that they didn't train... errr the one that will guarantee the oil - provided they'll take only US dollars for it.

Funny how on every event the price makes a vertical up or down.
    Hurry! Sell!
    Hurry! Rush back in!

Its not for me to rewrite history... America has made some terrible choices and also done a lot of good in the world. I'm not a huge fan I just question the alternatives!

I agree that Germany is performing very well, and should take a more prominent leadership role in the Eurozone. Whether they are able to step into the shoes of America is another question. I think a lot of people would say not even close. But your right, no superpower would be great!

Is it hypocritical to criticise America for invading a country for oil, and then get excited at the prospect of a jump in metal prices at the declaration of war?

Does war actually serve as a economic stimulus? After Iraq and Afghanistan you would expect them to be in surplus not trillions in debt:p

The airstrikes are solely to protect Obama's legacy.

Edit, GOLDPIRATE The USD is on the verge of breaking out to the upside, it is hardly in need of propping up. Look at the technicals. Fracking is making a tremendous difference in the US economy.

Could you give us a run down on how much energy/ water is required for fracking...It is no good getting oil if there is no profit in it. :)
