A few years ago, the coins from this series were all the rage. Prices were outrageous and the coins were selling like hotcakes. There were tons of threads on here about the Wolverine, Owl and Hedgehog. Then when the Argall came out last year, it seemed as though all the hype had died off. This year, the Mongolian Mint released the Manul coin. I haven't seen any posts on this site about the coin, but maybe I missed them. Initial comments on other sites were really down on this coin primarily complaining about the green crystals used in the eyes instead of the clear ones used on other issues. Last week I finally received my coin in from Downies and I have to say this could be one of my all time favorite coins. I haven't had a chance to take pics yet, but as soon as I do I will get them up. Has anyone received theirs yet??? What do you think? Joe
The current prices are much more realistic and fair. I'd argue that these shouldn't have been selling at massively inflated prices in the first place and dealer greed is part of the problem. The levels we're at now are better for collectors and certainly better for CIT. It's in nobodys interest for an ongoing series to become so expensive that new collectors can't get on board. Why anyone would want a 2,500 mintage one-ounce silver coin to sell for in excess of $200 on release is pretty baffling to me. The coin should appreciate over time after a collector has bought it, not have the next two years appreciation built in by the dealer on release day. The Manul is a beautiful coin and deserves to do well.
I received my coin long ago and I also posted some pictures in an old thread. I confirm that this coin is much better in hand than in pictures. Alex.
Until I can get some pics up....here is a nice write up. http://world.mintnewsblog.com/2014/02/mongolia-2014-manual-pallass-cat-500-togrog-silver-coin/
