http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/teen-shot...e-phone-advertised-online-20140327-35jvo.html A teenager who was shot in a western Sydney street was ambushed as he attempted to buy a mobile phone that he had agreed online to buy, police say. The 19-year-old is in hospital with four gunshot wounds to his stomach and arm following the shooting in Lansdowne Street, Merrylands, about 10.50pm on Wednesday. Another man, aged 62, was shot in the side of the chest when he came out of his house to investigate an argument he heard on the street. He underwent surgery on Thursday morning and is listed in a critical and unstable condition. Something to take on board if you are buying or selling PMs from a stranger. Stick to public places!
It does not say in that article but I would guess they are natives or recent arrivals from a place with a lot of sand where camels are the main for of transportation.
Wondering if this was e-bay related ? I had a situation where I bid on some products and the seller wasn't happy with the final price, so he reneged on the deal and wouldn't post. In talking to ebay afterward, they stated that they cannot force someone to sell their product at the final price, and just to leave honest feedback for the seller. But once you have won an auction you can get the details of the seller from ebay to help you in making contact, which I guess may also include the sellers address details. Perhaps the buyer went to this guys house, trying to enforce his winning bid and things went south ?
Article quoted by sammy says the phone "had been advertised for sale on a social networking site" so I'm assuming Facebook. Also states the shooting was not actually related to the phone deal. Just wrong place/wrong time.
It does not say in that article but I would guess they are caucasian males aged 18-45 and their main form of entertainment is mugging the elderly and receiving welfare payments to spend on alcohol. See, I can do that too.
Nah! I think he meant they had just gotten in from the Northern Territories, only place I know of with natives, sand and camels.
I saw on the news they slipped up and released a description: male, middle eastern, tattooerd. The sort who don't drink alcohol.
Not going to get involved in the discussion, other than to say that pretending there aren't huge disparities and over-representation of minorities in crime stats doesn't make you a smarter or 'better' person... It is just ignorant. Why shy away from the ugly reality?
Absolutely. But when 20% suddenly becomes 100% you have to ask yourself who the ignorant one is. Fun fact, 85% of people who are currently in jail are Australian-born. Asylum seekers are 45 times less likely to commit a crime than the average. So I think it's absolutely unjust to assume the crime committed in the original post was by someone from the land of "sand and camels", when statistically it's less than 10%.
