    Totally puzzled the guys at the meet yesterday.
    Item weights 19 grams
    Dimensions approx 4 x 5 cms
    Plate inscribed with the initials DFK

    I've seen some weird Asian bracelets that look like that where the sides sit on either side of the wrist

    I've seen some antique money clips that look similar and since it's personalized with initials, I'm guessing that's what it is. When you know for sure please fill us in

    There is a maker's mark AUU which I can't pick up with my iphone
    Pretty sure its sterling silver.

    That's what I said at the meet. But the engraving is hidden (on money side) if used like this.

    Granted it may well work for grasping toast or fruit but I doubt that was its original purpose.

    I googled both 'fruit tongs' and 'Toast tongs' and was surprised to see that both things existed, I have lead a life bereft of grasping implements, it is a wonder I have fingers left.

    However I couldn't see anything that looked similar to yours and they all have longer arms (I guess that's where the 'traveller' part comes in because they obviously take up less room when packing.)

    It looks almost like a clipboard clamp except that the spring pressure of that thing pushes outwards.

    So, returning to 1st principals, the question is, What activities require a small aperture to be clamped open?
