The more I read the forums the more I see silver can be as simple as 1 oz a week to complex buy and sells
    I have much to learn

Stacking can be as simple as Just buying 1 oz a week

    or

Stacking can be a crafty complex set of buying and selling
    for fast gain.

Buying, not selling, an ounce a week will NOT save you!

Parents and 2 kids will need 5 oz a week at least.

It's a hard lesson, be it silver, gold, or fiat, when the wolf is at the door, you will need to have squirrelled something away for the winter.

There's folk who for years have added a few ounces of Ag or Au to their stack and probably treat precious metal in exactly the same way as the guy who feels the need to buy expensive dinners...wear's the best suit...has the finest cars...is seen at the best Casino and goes on 5 star holidays using his gold credit card that is near "maxed-out."

I'd prefer to think...a good life strategy would be to...not worry so much about what others have, nor be pressured to waste your money on expensive holidays, "weddings" or fill your home with junk you'll rarely use.

Sure..it's nice to have a few nice things...after-all that's why we work but...it is possible to enjoy life and still be happy.

By reducing your expenditure by a percentage figure that you decide.. (Say between 15% and 50%) you could use that income to buy a lump of silver or gold just as you would buy food...booze...clothes...cars...gamble...go on holidays.

imo...try to keep your financial goals simple, especially, if you are new to saving.

Learn to save because if you make saving a normal part of your every day life...you'll learn to invest and...if you aren't good at investing...save more than the "other" bloke. :)

Copperhead, you shouldn't allow yourself to feel pressured by others to commit to X number of ounces a week/month/year. Those who adhere to a fundamentalist scheme get burned because they are not disciplined at all. That's why you have no shortage of cry babies on stacker forums when the pm market is in consolidation.

A better bet is to pay attention to those who are making rational analysis...not those who are spewing hype and giving bad advice.

Think about their bad advice: if they are telling you to religiously buy 1 (or more than) ounce(s) a week then they don't care that you are losing money. First of all, in any given week, the price may be considerably higher than 5 weeks or 3 months down the road. Also, what are the shipping and service charges you might be incurring for every order you place? That's something to consider. Additionally, when you order larger quantities less often, usually you can take advantage of better deals from many dealers who offer discounts on volume purchases, even small volume purchases with some dealers.

Precious metals can be a terrific investment of your money but you are better off playing it smart....don't listen to permabulls and those that hype metals. Buy smart by researching, studying, and analyzing your best options. Throwing away good money by making rash purchases is not a good way to spend that currency.

Again, (in the GFC context) silver is NOT an investment, it is an insurance policy.

Playing the market is a mugs game.

Some dealers will let you buy in small amounts and will store your metals until you have enough to make the cost of postage worthwhile, one large shipment of metals is cheaper than many smaller shipments.

You can also find dealers who will let you buy unallocated silver which is less than the cost of buying a silver product, let that build up until you have enough to swap for a large bullion product with a smaller premium.

This is great advice from each and every one .

I want to tell you a humbling story I am a nice guy. I am modest . But I blindly try to give to my family and when the smoke clears I get some silver
For 14 years I have watched my wife drink $50 per week in booz the personality that goes with it SUCKS and is financially counterproductive She recently received a DWI
can you imagine that money to go.
. I still remember each and every $50
week after week Booz cigarettes $10 to $15 more per week

Thats what I am up against
What is good is I find metal like you cant believe I have taken apart 6000 TV' s wire CU pipe Brass
Yes I stack Copper but it's not pretty .
I have not had the guts yet to sell all my copper for silver.
Each week I find Copper as much as 50 pounds
I'll load 3000 pounds of oil burners steel for $300 copper with the situation also
I have become a scrap expert. Lead zinc AL thats my unstoppable force .
Hard to keep up the pace .

But all in all I feel I am working against the opposite of my desire
The silver stacking about 3 to 4 years is showing me frugal importance
it is very clear the loss , I feel I can't recuperate from. I need that 250 per month for silver
compared to Booze - silver is a sure thing.

    You are right.
However, I regard travel as priceless, and spend a lot to see the world.
    Gotta live a little.

All the more reason to start squirreling it away.
In fact, I would be inclined to cut the allowance out and use that to feather the family nest.
Tell her if she wishes to smoke and drink, she can pay for it herself.
