A failure? Clearly not when they keep rolling them out.

If you save $100,000.00 in wages and have an increase in loss of $20,000.00 to theft you are still way ahead.

9 times out of 10 I'll use the self-checkout unless there's an attractive checkout chick working the register and there's no line

Yes and you have the added benefit of removing moral hazard from your average peasant's behaviour so that they don't get so upset about those pesky entitlement issues caused by politicians or financial fraud in everyday life. A bit of shoplifting is a small price to pay.

I hate the self serve idea, never use it and I would much rather be served by a real person :)

This, though even if these took physical notes (possible but would need a lot of tinkering against counterfeit notes) I would still avoid the self-serve machines for other reasons.

I love them because I'm usually buying less than 20 items. It's so obnoxious when some tool takes a trolly through them and clouds it up for 15 minutes because they are slow at scanning things

From now on I am going to be that tool who takes a trolley full of stuff through them and with each item I shall hold it skywards prior to scanning it twice then I shall call the girl over to fix it and then proceed to try and chat her up even if she is 15 years younger than me. I shall also ask the people around me about issues such as permeate in milk, the best type of corn chips and I shall endeavour to block access to the other scanners by positioning my trolley in the middle of the whole setup. I shall do all this while dressed ind my dressing gown and slippers :)

Has anyone ever worn there dressing gown to a supermarket of a night time?

Whenever they try and make me go through the 'self checkout', I like to scan 2 or 3 items then call the girl over to assist me. I praise her, tell her she doing a great job, then stand there as she does the rest of my trolley full. Meanwhile I like to lecture her as to the evils of self checkouts, and that very soon they won't need her. :)

The thing is people read articles like that and think everyone is taking stuff and getting away with it so they then think they may as well do it. That article will see a jump in the amount of people mis scanning or not scanning stuff at all. Then when those people get away with it they will tell people who will also then do it. You will have people scanning $16 kg cherries as $1.99 bananas in growing numbers lol. There will be people thinking I wonder if you can actually get away with it so they will try it out of curiosity.

It is like a big red button with a sign that says "do not push" as soon as you see it you really want to push it to see what happens :)

After reading ad nauseum your whinging, whining, bitter and twisted, self entitled posts it was no surprise to see you admit on this forum that you are just another thieving piece of scum..........who believes it's your self deluded and self entitled DUTY to steal from us all.

Why work hard and pay your way through life Credit Crunch, when you can instead just bitch and whinge and steal from all of us that do.
