I copped a $900 electricity invoice during last winter. Mainly to do with heating (for infant's room) and hot water. I keep things turned off when not being used. I can see how one can get hit with a huge invoice if they're in a poorly insulated house and have children.

Prior to 1946 the concept of a Newstart allowance was unconstitutional. The 1946 referendum was a disastrous result - ushered in socialism, the commies won without people realising.

I empathise with the OP as the job market is rough at the moment, but it demonstrates the importance of saving (ant and the grasshopper).

    Seriously????

No offence but you and I would be in totally different positions, for a start my power bill would be well under $240, yours would be $1000.00.
One thing that gets my goat, it is all about perception...... Some people thrive on adversity other crumble and scream for help.

I have seen one person shot and asked how he was going got a thumbs up and a smile, another person (not an Aussie) whinge and bitch and complain endlessly to the point where I felt like yelling "shut the turtle up you whinging bast@&d"

I have to be honest I really do not understand the "Someone should look after me because I can't do it myself" mentality.

There are people who produce and give and there are others who take, take, take, take and then ask for more. Who gets the better deal? Be thankful for what you have and move forward.

The thing that shits me, people who work hard, produce and move forward have a mindset where they can't stop doing it they have to do well and a driven to do something.

The people who take will never produce and do well because they are driven to take and ask for more.

I am all for helping the old, the sick and people who need help to get on their feet and move forward. I am however not keen to help anyone who is "entitled".

You need to move forward, no use trying - you need to do it.

    Rant over.

    Edit spelling

To be fair to THE END, he does live in a much colder climate than many posters here, so space heating and an electric HWS is used to a greater extent than those of you who live in say QLD etc.

I hate to say it if it is cold and you do not have the money for heating put on a jumper and get a blanket, yes it may be cold but you have to make do. Uncomfortable? Well you have to learn to live with a bit of discomfort. If you want space heating you need to get more money to pay for it...... Therefore you need to earn more money, Govt won't give it to you then you need to look at other avenues........ Maybe a job????? Can't get a job then turn off the heater..

Hot water? Shorter showers and only once a day, if you have the opportunity have a shower at work after your shift....

I live in a hot climate, I could have the aircon on on all the time, if I did I would have a big power bill........

People have the ability to make choices and those choices have an effect and consequences. People look for excuses, instead of excuses look for a solution.

I really do not see it as being that hard.

I'm lucky to shower every second day lol! I have looked at the usage chart on the latest power bill and it really spikes up during winter almost triple of summer so the oil heaters are just no good....We have a 2 yr old son so we were trying to keep him warm but the living area is quite big so its takes a lot to heat......Next winter we will def do it differently.

Maybe we should move QLD like my grand parents and uncle and aunty also did 20 yrs ago?

the idiot MOVED out to where he is now and quit his job. Then preaches to people like it was the best decision he ever made while whinging in other threads ow he cant find a job and the dole does not pay enough

Then he gets 2 jobs and with a week looses both.

and yet it is the governments fault.

I hope this liberal gov YOU voted in cuts the dole in bloody half

This reminds me of a woman I was seeing years and years ago. She could not afford to buy food for her and her son but she just purchased a new lounge and signed up to an expensive Telstra Internet package.

I went out without being asked and got about $100 worth of groceries for her and her son, fill the pantry and the freezer.

She looked at the stuff I got and said "we won't eat that I do not like mince or sausages" she had no food and could not afford to buy food to feed herself but would not eat the food I got because it was not good enough for her.

I have to say I just do not understand the mentality of some people. I really don't......

Mate if you don't like commentary on your life don't tell everyone about it.

Also be careful about threatening people you don't know, even on the internet where everyone can be a keyboard warrior.
