I have a few bucks burning a hole in my pocket and want to buy my first Kookaburra on eBay. 2014s can be had for less than $28 USD and an MS-69 2013 can be had for less than $35 USD. These seem like pretty good deals. Should I get one of these or look for an earlier year? Any advice is appreciated.
Greets purple, I'd just pick a design I liked and go for it, bargain buying! Pre-2011 have a lower mintage so are more rare but recently the Perth Mint reminted some years to make up mintage numbers and they can be found at cheap prices atm, the 2008 seems the most expensive but I like the 2009 design the best. Buying NGC 69's at your quoted prices is a bargain.
Thanks STC for the info. I too like the design of the 2008 and 2009 a lot but with the price of an MS-69 2013 under $35USD I can't see how I could go wrong. They're usually not that cheap but for some reason they have been lately on the Bay. I don't know why.
Maybe try the buy sell forum on here. Just post a message with how many for how much and see what people offer you! IMO pre 2012 are the way to go
Careful buying slabbed coins at premiums, you will limit your future sell market and you will expect to get your premium back when you sell.. PM kooks come in capsule and are unc anyway so unsure why you'd want to put a bullion coin in plastic to take us space - zero sum game or worst at best. I know in Australia people wouldn't bother - think its just a US hype machine thing and a way for a middle-man to profit at the retail buyers expense. My advice is to get older kooks now as the 2014 will still be available for 6 months at similar price levels over spot. 1for1
To be honest, don't bother buying MS69 2013 kooks. Since you're in the States, might as well buy normal bullion, send them to get them graded, and sell them for more.
Many times that I have done a search for past sales, I have seen MS69 coins sell for less than ungraded coins. I guess the hope for MS70 is worth something.
I would go for 2014 Kookaburras, because they're cheaper Plus: almost all dealers have sold the 2013's out already.
Which is crazy considering that grading + postage is almost the price of the BU coin, plus you won't get too many MS70's from PM products. I believe that grading of the modern bullion is a waste of time & money, but I would buy MS69 PM coin against ungraded, for the same price - any day. Any one got such offers?
