Hi All, thanks for all the info on Bitcoin !

I have followed the instructions on Bitcoin for Dummies post I downloaded the wallet software Bitcoin-QT and it starts to syncronise - it got to week 187 the error msg appears "Failed to read block" I press ok and it closes window.. Ive done this a number of time and even uninstalled software and rebooted.. Am I doing anything obviously wrong?

Has anyone else had this issue?

No, I had no problems with it... But I finished last night so maybe a recent problem.

If you uninstall and reinstall be sure to delete the program files - though if you have BTCs then do not delete the wallet.dat file. If you are using Windows then it is in the AppData folder. The initial/load synchronisation for bitcoin-qt can take up to 24 hours. Once it is synchronised you should be ok.

As for your specific error message I'm not too sure. Check various forums to see if others have had that problem. Also be sure that you have enough disk space as you'll need around 10GB free space (as a minimum).

I haven't synced my bitcoin app in a few months and it's now taking ages to sync.

Apparently the new recommended app for bitcoins is Multibit because it takes a few secs to sync the ENTIRE blockchain. Anyone else use MultiBit? The official page suggesting MultiBit http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

I tried Multibit a few months ago and wasn't very fond of it. I'd recommend Electrum. http://electrum.org/

Bitcoin-QT and Armory, together, in my view the best way to store your bitcoins !

Although, when Trezor becomes operational in January, it will be a game changer...

    Check them out.

    Hi Guys,

Have tried to delete the current wallet.dat and change with the backup one by deleting and replacing...but it did not work.

Now im trying to change the folder 'index' to 'index1' (i found this on the forum) - but it does not seem to download/synchronize the blocks?

    PLEASE HELP

PS: Running Mac 10.9 if that helps
