Finally after searching and searching I found the mintage numbers. This also helps explain some price points certain coins are sold at. Somalia Elephant mintage numbers for 2009-2013. 2013- 140k 2012- 80k 2011- 170k 2010- 120k 2009- 130k
Not sure. No reason was given. 2012 seems to be the sleeper out of the group. Pricings going to keep getting higher.
Can you scan/copy the response you received and post it here? (Blank out any personal information of course). Sorry, there's way to many unreliable mintage figures for all sorts of coins floating around out there.
It was an official letter from the Bavarian Mint (letterhead, signatures, dated etc.) given to a dealer who's firm is exclusive to the Bavarian Mint. I was shown the letter and asked, as a professional courtesy, to not name names and to adjust the mintage numbers up or down to the closest 10,000. I saw the actual letter myself.
Again the somalian mystic comes back even in this latest update with allrespect purple for sharing youre info but transparant is something else i think the germans play a game with being not clear about the mintage to keep them premiums high
Best guess is that they had leftover 2011 coins. When the 2011 was nominated as a top ten finalist for silver coin of the year, it appears that they made a lot of extra coins. Then when it didn't win, future sales likely slowed. So, with extra 2011s on hand, no need to mint 2012s for a while.
He's said it was written correspondence from the mint, isn't that enough or do you think he's a liar? Scanning a copy would make no difference. If he WAS lying he could easily photoshop a fake letterhead, etc
Somalia Elephant mintage numbers: Link to third party website. The only mintage numbers we differ on is 2012. They may be right and I could be wrong. Won't be the last time nor the first. http://www.squidoo.com/somalian-african-elephant-silver-coins
