Well, right now the government is ACTUALLY trying to put it into practice. It's not just a "what if" situation.

    This is happening right now.

Yes, hear about that a long time ago:
    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-202_162-57399610

But this one about Israel is more serious news. The government is trying to put it into practice and they are not "moving towards", but actually wanting to implement it 100 %. That means: 100 % cashless.

I doubt they can eliminate foreign cash, though... USD, EUR, JPY, GBP, RMB...

I think is becoming "trendy". If the USA or the EU will try pulling something like this forward, it will be doom for those who prefer cash!

If it comes in you will then see barter instead of cash jobs, you want some electrical work done? Take my car down to the servo and get it serviced for me and get me $xxx groceries..

Do the "swipe away" thing at the MacDonalds drive through. Not eftpos with number punching. Not lengthy credit card purchase with signature or pin. Because it's a "minor" purchase, requires only that the attendant "swipe" across the reader and "viola", payment made (against your creditcard).

If that's not cashless, I don't know what is. And it's faster & easier than actually paying cash. Seems so "good" and convenient............... The mindless domesticated multitudes will eventually love it and adopt it. Same as self serve service stations, attendant free supermarket checkouts, the masses will like this new gimmick thinking it's much faster and easier.

But so is living in a feedlot being spoonfed rather than in the wild having to search for food. Domesticated to the point of stupidity. And totally controllable.

I saw an ad on TV yesterday where the people in a cafeteria are paying no attention to what they're doing just swipe and step forward until someone pays with cash and they all crash into each other and others stop to look up.

It actually made it look like using cash is wrong in a way, putting out the people waiting behind you because you take too long.

It's the first time I've seen something show people being herded like sheep as a good thing.

Does Israel still have an hyper-inflation rate of over 100%. They were well in excess of that a few years ago.

What is the inflation rate now.

No offence, but the title of the article is totally misleading.

Far from getting rid of cash, all it says is that a committee will be formed to look at ways of minimising avoidance.

As we all know committees come and go and nothing much happens.

As a matter of fact I would have thought Israel would be last place that gets rid of cash.

I think the idea is to get everyone to work for the government, then they can control the payments and if everyone works for the government you can't accept barter.

As suspected - it's all about government theft of peoples' property.

People will resist this with all they're worth! Easy ways to bypass it would be:
    1. Purchase foreign exchange eg US dollars and transact with those instead of local currency.
    2. Pay for all services and trade using gold and silver.
    3. Barter goods and services amongst each other and only resort to using (1) and (2) in cases where goods and services cannot be bartered...
    4. Bitcoins!!

Resisting theft is a bona fide and honourable pratice and should be embraced by all.
