This story has different versions: Red faces at Air France after gold theft and cocaine haul The airline admitted Tuesday that gold worth around $2 million -- the equivalent of about four bars of the precious metal at Wednesday's prices -- went missing between being loaded on to one of its flights and landing at Zurich airport. And recently, more than a ton of cocaine stashed in 30 suitcases was found on board an Air France flight. Both incidents have raised concerns about Air France's security procedures. French police announced the theft of the gold bars on Tuesday. Brink's, the U.S. security firm which delivered the 73 kilo shipment of gold to Charles de Gaulle airport, said in a statement that the parcels "weren't under its responsibility" at the time on the short flight to Zurich. more at: http://www.cnbc.com/id/101060690 Gold Worth $2 Million Disappears From Paris-Zurich Flight PARISGold bars worth about $2 million went missing last week after they were loaded onto an Air France passenger jet at Paris's Charles-de-Gaulle airport that was bound for Switzerland. Nearly two-thirds of the 73 kilograms, or 161 pounds, of gold being shipped was apparently stolen before the planea budget flight operated by Air France's low-cost unit Hop!took off for Zurich. The heist was discovered only when what was left of the pricey cargo was unloaded at destination. Air France said it was a victim in the case and had filed a complaint with French prosecutors. Access to the cargo area in a commercial flight is sealed so the gold could not have been stolen during the flight, a spokesman for Air France said. The possibility that the gold disappeared in Zurich hasn't been ruled out, he added. more at: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304213904579095370791435450.html
I told them to look after it for me on the way to my mountain chalet for the winter. I must get my staff to check to see if it is in the wine cellar by mistake. It is sooo hard to get good help these days.
"We are investigating the matter" Oh how re-assuring this rhetoric is. The thieves will never be caught and Brinks is already washing their hands of this debacle.
You know what airlines are like. It was placed in the wrong cargo bin and is still rolling around the baggage claim conveyor in the airport at Zumbo, Mozambique.
Hahahaha. No wonder they won't find them. There aviation police is bearing same initials as (in)famous Rockstar video/computer games - GTA = Grand Theft Auto. Or in this case: Grand Theft Aurum.
I was at the airport, last tuesday, looking at the planes coming and going and lo and behold after an air france plane left,I saw 2 crates left on the tarmac. So I drove my pick-up over to them and loaded them in the back.I havent opened them yet,but maybe I should do that sometime. But I'm just so busy.
