hello and welcomes :) maybe this should be moved to the new members section??
take it in to goldstackers, or W.Davis in the city, and they will be able to XRF test it for you.
i don't think there is an affordable machine you get get to nondestructive test gold..
is what form is it? carded? coins? nuggests?

HI! and I think Shiney is right, you can either "destructively" test by using an acid test or take it into a dealer and ask them nicely to test it for you. Problem with that is if you have already bought the items it might be a bit hard to get your money back if they are not quite what you thought you were getting.

There are electronic gold testers that use fluid and electrodes to determine karat - but I've never used one and I wouldn't trust them not to be fooled by heavy gold electroplate etc.

Poor mans test is specific gravity. Should be demos on YouTube, or bring it into Gold Stackers and we can XRF it for a gold coin donation to Autism Victoria.

can't tell if spammer or....? hmmm
is it possible the spammers are getting smarter? asking a seemingly relevant question, then a sneak attack :\
but on a serious note that "bullion tester" app that hears the harmonic frequencies that your bullion makes and then compares it against what is known to be a real one.

I've found the Tri-electronics GT4000 to be pretty good, though it is fooled by filled and rolled gold. It will also tell you that silver is gold (I have seen silver jewellery with gold hallmarks) Best to back up the tester with an acid test IMHO.
