    You can gild your own or pay someone to do it. 30cent worth of gold and you can triple the price ;)

    I'd say it's after-sales gilding - he buys the regular bullion coins/rounds from mints and dealers, then does the gilding himself (or contracts someone to do it).

    So this is do it yourself gilding, and people are paying 100s for Eagles.. The coins don't even look nice.. WHY are people buying these.. o_O

    Because most wouldn't know how to do it or couldn't be bothered, especially if they just want the one. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. It's always the gildeds that get the most attention when I take out coins to show friends, I think the contrast makes it all, like, pretty and stuff

    Hi All,

    I like the idea of "making some one off's" just for me.

    This process could also be used to make fantasy pieces too getting high volume cheap coins from recent history and guilding them!

    Don't know how others would take to the idea but might be fun seein what can be produced with a wee bit of thought and skill?
