So I decided to do some half dollar fishing. I'd read about people doing this a few years ago and always wondered if the pond was fished out. I thought the odds might be good on at least the 1965-1970 40% coins still being out there since most people know about pre 1964 but not so much about late 60s halves. I guess there's just one way to find out! I ordered $2000 US in half dollars and picked them up this morning. Went to work while watching Netflix. I was guessing about a 0.5% success rate. Hurrah! My first one! After the first box I had 4, within the margin for my guess Second box was a dud.... =( Third box had only 2..... Final box had 1. So I ended up with 7; all of which are only 40% silver. So all in all, about $20 melt value of silver at today's bombed out prices. Minus the face value of the coins of $3.50 that's around $16.50 US. Conclusion: I'm not gonna do this again =D but it was a fun experience!
Sell the cardboard boxes on ebay. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Perth-Mi...=AU_Bullion&hash=item19ddc22001#ht_1879wt_958
They're not as cool as those.... these are just plain cardboard boxes. Also, my little brother already stole them from me
Was watching Numb3rs on Netflix so about 2-3 episodes. You don't have to do them individually. You can unwrap a stack and look at the edges. If the edge is all silver it's pre 1970, if it's 1/2 or all copper color it's a dirty fake! =D
Yup, and my buddy works at the bank so I don't even have to put them in rolls =D Btw, who is your avatar? ;-)
