For bars, I think it depends on what the stamp says. It it's something generic enough, and you have individual number stamps with it, to put on your own serial numbers as it were, it probably wouldn't hurt much. For example, "MM Stack SN#0001". I doubt though that coins would be able to be stamped, they'd be too small with too much area used for the actual design.
Good call - the few things that are probably more specific are as follows. The sovereigns are carded and graded. Austrian Ducat 1915 Gold Sovereign 1888 Melbourne graded eF Gold Sovereign 1896 Melbourne graded VF+ Gold Sovereign 1893 London graded aVF LM 10g gold ingot (sn - AIU086)
LM is rarely surfaced in Australia, as they are from Indonesia. As far as i know from SS, only Aurora has them. This could be a stand out from the pack.

Yes, we had them around straight away that night. They came again in the morning to check up on us, and crime scenes came later that day to do photos and prints. It was all pretty much just the formality of it & pretty lax, but I didn't expect much out of it. They have a full inventory, etc, but as far as them actually getting out there and talking to people, visiting pawn brokers, etc... I doubt it. They said they were going to talk to the neighbours and didn't, so we did.

Police will have all this on their system .You maybe very surprised what comes up.The cops are not useless .The fact you reported this quick is very good.
I think more often than not the police know who have committed a crime, but there's a long way between knowing something, and having enough evidence to charge, prosecute and convict - knowing simply isn't good enough
Cops will charge if they have a sniff in Qld. Prosections are a decision for the DPP and the convictions are for the Judge. Three different teams not always on the same page.
Hmm in Vic they seem keen on ensuring they can secure a conviction before they will charge - at least on some matters.
From personal experience, there is also a long way between having a clearly defined situation, and having cops willing to get off their asses and do their job.

That's not a safe. That's a metal box that was bolted to the floor. I wonder what (if any) difference a heavy duty safe (100kg+) would have made? At the very least they may have been spotted by neighbors while trying to move it.
