    Hi all,

Looking for a decent set of scales to service the PM habit. Something reliable but not too expensive.

I presume I would want something that measures .1gram? What maximum weight do others go for?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I bought mine from the bay, accurate to 1/100g, max load 200g, cheap and works.

Walk into your nearest gunshop and ask about their pocket 'grain scales' used for reloading.

Woolies has a good one in the fruit/vege area, will work on the 10kg snake. :)

I got 2 actually, one that does 0.0 up to 1kg and 0.00 up to 300gr, and they are like under $10 on ebay coming from hongkong.

on another note...I remember last year attending Adelaide meet...I ask around the table for a scale...within 5 second there was 5 different scale on the table...hardcore stacker those lot :D

Breville make a good set of digital kitchen scales that reads to 5 kilograms in gram increments.
I've found it useful for bars and bulk coin as it has a decent flat surface roughly 170mm square.
Myers, David Jones etc. Around fifty dollars AND can be used as kitchen scales too!

Like everything else these days, you can either get a really good set of scales made for the professional market that costs north of $100,

or a cheap crappy one that costs less than $10

    nothing in between

why can't the Chinese make cheap crappy XRF scanners so we can all have one ?

No, cheap one that costs less than $10 works just fine.

Unfortunately I find some gold nuggets that weigh as little as 0.05 grams. My $9.99 scales have been giving me accurate results for over 3 years. Replace the original batteries with a good pair of energisers and you wont go wrong. Oh, and I cross check my scales with Uncle Russ who owns the same type. We always get identical readouts on items.

Buy the $10 scales and buy 3oz Silver with the savings over a $100 set.

Picked up a cheap china made electronic set from eBay for $14. Has a ozT setting and still works.

Breaks me heart to think about the vintage brass weight scales I owned as a young drug dealer for now they are gone. Purple velvet lined, black suede box dammit.

    My only question is...

Usually a KG bar weight slightly more than 1000g, would this extra weight be the last straw to break the camel's back?

Will give a little review in a couple of days.

All I need now is a 1kg bar for test purposes....

Can anyone spare a 1kg AU Bar for my review? ;)

Get a bag of long grain rice from Woolies, you can easily test the maximum load by adding bit by bit.
