Hey guys. Been awhile since I posted in here. I was stripping copper wire from an old box fan that died on me. And there was a different colored wire in the insulation of a few cords that leaded into the motor. It has a silvery look to it. Would it be silver? Thank you! Source: Photobucket
IT COULD BE SILVER. There is a lot of wiring being produced with use of silver coated copper. Most of the MIL spec cables must have that. They do that to improve the high frequency conductive characteristics of the wiring. That is because in higher frequencies the signal travels on the outside of a conductor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litz_wire So yes - you may have that type of wire. And do not get too exited - it is not worth much. The silver content is almost non existent - it is such a thin layer.
I also think it might be tinned copper... It has a silvery look, but on the image (at least), it looks a darker grey tone...
