Thank you all for all of your constructive feedback. I seriously appreciate it, from one silver hoarder, a.k.a. potential domestic terrorist) to another... So, it sounds like the biggest problem is the NAME of the site... I don't hear any nays about a craigslist type thing for metals... it's tough trying to find a suitable name that isn't already taken...
It is also going to be tough to keep a good reputation without some form of policing. Easiest way to sell fake items? Ebay and craigslist
This is an Australian-based forum and given the time differences you may find that any opposition to a 'craigslist' style thing may be voiced later when other countries that are more familiar with that get online. I've never seen craigslist personally but i assume it is an alternative to gumtree? My previous comment stand about hoping that you get active on other people's threads and not just spruik your own agenda.
You can also piss off your hosting company and host it from your home, which means you can drop the need for ads. This is 1 thing you can use to your advantage - not having ads, where your competitors do. I also noticed you mentioned 'domestic terrorist'. I get where you are coming from with this as I am familur with American politics and culture, and I know that allot of Americans feel that way. You can emphesize security also as an advantage with your project, which your competitors lack. Being a start up in a saturated market, you need to have positive attritubutes with your site that others lack. Going up brute force against your competitors is a lost cause because they are bigger, and more well known. Look at Facebook and Google Plus. Google+ was just Facebook with circles, had a shit name, and offered nothing great over Facebook, hence it failed. Your site is currently going down the same road. No offence bro.
Thanks again everyone for the feedback. I do really appreciate it. There are many more largely looming matters to ponder than this little website. I'm off to bed. take care, Tom I'll get back to it tomorrow.
Just to be clear, your first post implies that it is a new site with no connection to yourself. A later post alludes to it being your website. Bad form, especially as a first post.
i heard from a birdie that the spotmex website was shortlived and not a viable model when there are forums doing this for free... damn stoopid free market.
As I said I would deliver, here is the site for Australia. I hope some folks find value in it. If so, I'll be happy. If not, I'll still be happy. Cheers from the other side of the world, Tom
Not sure why I would wanna use a website when we have the community to buy from and sell to? Call me paranoid, but something looks fishy to me.
You haven't really responded to my jibes... why would a member here want to take off and use a newby's website when they are already getting it for free here and that newby does not want to contribute anything to this existing website other than to say hey look what i did... umm... i mean my friend did... i mean... umm... Especially given the recent incident where someone was caught luring people to another website that they created only to find that that link placed a tracking bug on their computer (apparently). Stupid is as stupid does. Join the community and you'll get more respect.
