I put in 14 absentee bids - Early miscellaneous lots - looks like I may have won 3 of these - Mainly pre decimal silver and round 66 50c + ods and ends!

I had a quick look earlier
missed out on several items being second highest lowballer bid ( read just over spot)
had a crack at the low grade crowns as well as the 100+ lot of 50's

Anyone feel like their winning lots at Nobles through absentee bids are always at your maximum bid? ALL lots I've won at Nobles are always MAX bid....... :(

Spot on - I bid in a number of other auctions also, some of these sell at the second highest bid + next increment. Not Nobles though, always exactly my bid!

It's happened again. I won a few lots in the last day or two and ALL are EXACTLY my very HIGH bid.

Nobles used to be good some auctions ago, I'd say Auction 98 and earlier, when I used to win bids below my MAX bid.

Now I always win lots at exactly my highest bid amount - suss or not?

I even once placed a RIDICULOUSLY high bid and guess what? I won it at that crazy price - it was a test for me, an expensive one at that, so now I just lower my bids a little and if I don't win, then that's fine.

It's unfortunate for us absentee bidders who are unable to make it to the auction - we get taken advantage of unfortunately! :|

Not always so for me - I ended up winning 4 early bulk lots out of 14 bids - absentee (so I dont get carried away)

My bids are what I am willing to pay ......... If I dont win, I dont win.

I build a spreadsheet before each auction and base it around spot silver less 10%, less premium, less CC % if funds are short. I add extra for any standouts but not too much.

In this way I could theoretically take the lot to someone like W Davis the next day and return my funds.

At yesterdays prices I would have lost about $33 with what I had won.

However the joy and reward in this comes afterwards

So far : 1934 o/d 3d (aVf) - 1946 penny (vf with a few problems) - a whole bunch of error coins - 1933 1/- vg ........... have only just started sorting through.

(pics if any interest but off to ebay soon).

    Edmond

Sounds very lowballerish but I like it!

    Congrats Edmond on the win.

I won a few items but was exactly my highest bid. Maybe it's in high demand or coincidence.

I also build an Excel spreadsheet with my bids and another column including buyer's premium because the premium itself can vary by $300-$400 at times on higher items and sometimes you forget about the final figure including buyer's premium.

Definitely very rewarding and joyous to win auction lots.

Now I just need to find some money to pay for my winning lots.

Good luck with the eBay sales!
