Ive posted this on several of the other PM forums but figured it may be useful to those who are looking to put together a similar setThis set is inspired by the Fabulous 15 Set that the RCM is selling except this one would be much cheaper and IMO a lot nicer. It hasnt been an easy task so far and my hope is that other folks can also chime in on other releases from what is typical (Maples, ASEs, Phils, etc). Anyways here is what Ive come up with so far. This is bullion coins only since numismatic coins just sell for too much. Well some bullion coins seem to go for numismatic prices because of rarity and scarcity but theyre still bullion. The Malawi Springbok was released in 2011 but changed to Gabon Springbok silver coin in 2012 so Im not sure how that one is going to pan out. . BTW the Fiji Taku now has a new reverse without the queen Post any other bullion coins if you have knowledge of them that will be released in 2013. Also the Kangaroo at Sunset from the RAM actually has the F15 privy mark on it for 2010, 11 and 12. 2009 it had the F12 privy mark. 2013 not released yet.
Would those two coins be considered bullion coins or numi. Im trying to focus the set more on bullion coins because theyre cheaper
.999 is bullion there are two different styles like the american eagle there is the 'proof' which is numi and then there are the uncirculated "non proof" bullion the bullion versions for the roo and kiwi, they are more expensive than the eagle maple kook ect but the mintages are much lower kangaroo mintage 20,000 kiwi 13,500 i think compared to the eagle which is tens of millions
I think you need to set some parameters such as minimum mintage of 100,000 and wheter the coin will continue to be minted. Otherwise the list would be too long. For instance the Tuvalu D&D series could qualify as a yearly bullion release with only 5k per year. Also the Chinese lunar fan series is extremely popular (mintage 66k year). It could be argued that the Canadian wildlife series isn't bullionbased on the design change and defined end of the set. I believe they are a set of 6 and once done, they won't be any further releases. The Kook's & Koala's, on the other hand, have yearly design changes and will be minted every year.
You have a good point...but IMO coins like D&D are numi coins and besides, a colorized coin in the set im putting together will look really out of place. There are lots of bullion coins that could be considered numis due to low mintage. The beauty on making a world set is that you can make it to your liking. The Fab 15 set IMO doesnt epitomize the best bullion coins out there, truthfully the price is a scam IMO. I believe in the end my set will consist of 21 bullion coins from all over the world and it will probably cost a few hundred dollars less than the Fab 15 set
So I finally finished my set of 23 world bullion coins. Some of them definitely cost more than bullion prices because they were hard to source. If youre looking at completing one of these sets on your own expect to order some of them from overseas, namely Germany as there seems to be quite a few bullion coins that are minted in Germany for other countries. I recently acquired the following from Germany to finish off the collection -2013 Andorra Eagle $33.23 -2013 Cook Islands Bounty $36.09 -2013 Gabon Springbok $40.92 -2013 Australian Kangaroo $73.40 -2013 Suriname (Map of Suriname) $33.36 Total $217 Unfortunately silver is heavily taxed in Germany so these bullion coins which pretty much are available in Europe only (unless imported into the US) are going to cost significantly more than bullion.
