Hello fellow stackers. There seem to be a few new members today so I thought I would join in and say "hi". I've been lurking here for a couple of months now. Mostly trying to work out who to pay attention to, who the jokers are and so on, as you do in most forums. Economics have always been a gap in my knowledge and it's something I wish to rectify so I am reading through Michael Maloney's book on G&S and trying to get my head around the many threads and articles posted around the place. I have become a might smitten with the shiny stuff for various reasons and I look forward to learning and sharing with you guys as I stack. I also collect and enjoy Russian and German paper money (and a few coins) between the late 1800s and mid 1900s. And books, I love books. Seems like a nice place, think I'll stay a while Regards, Asylum
Hey Asylum, Have you seen the pdf on collecting pre-1933 gold coins? That may also interest you by the sounds of it.
Located on this site? No can't say that I have. Thanks for the heads up. I do have a few books to read through and of course the Krause catalogues.
Hi Asylum, I have a collection of hyperinflation notes and in amongst that are some of the German notes (and Notgeld). very interesting area for collecting. Back when I was at school my mum was shocked that they don't teach you anything about economics, when she was at school they taught you how to write cheques and balance your household income and that sort of thing. I guess it all became obsolete when you could get everything on credit. I have just started looking into economics as well, it is about as interesting as politics but I guess it is something you need to be aware of even if you aren't actively participating. I have started a Self Managed Super Fund and you lpick it up pretty quickly. Welcome edit: Spelling
I just picked up some Notgeld recently as well I'm a creative type and was originally drawn in by the look of the older notes from these regions but then my love of history jumped in for the ride. My mother is a teacher and I have to say the state of education is pretty shocking from the things I hear going on. But as with most things today, the world has become quite apathetic and over informed. They really do seem to need to teach basic life skills these days, some people certainly seem to need it. That aside, hyperinflation is pretty fascinating stuff. It's surprising how recently such things occurred. Hindsight is a wonderful thing eh.
