Looking for a smallish to medium sized safe for my silver, I only have a small keypad type at the moment and its running out of space so its time for an upgrade.

What is the best to go for?

Electric Key Pad or Key? also what rating would you go for?

    Cheers :)

Most important if you decide to get a safe is ensuring it's a security safe - not a fire safe. A fire safe is for protecting documents from fire - not from preventing valuables from being stolen.

Keep the good stuff in your current safe and put bulky items in the bigger safe you will buy, make both well hidden but the smaller safe should be impossible to find.

I tried using a waterproof safe. It just made the boat sink faster than on any of the other trips. :(

Nothing wrong with digital locks, provided you don't expect to get a good one for $89 at Bunnings.

A friend of mine was robbed and was threatened with a knife to disclose where the valuables were. He had been very clever which might be a lesson for all of us.
He had a safe in the bedroom with a few valuables in which he disclosed to the thief's and he opened it. They took what was inside and basically left. What they didn't know was the real valuable stuff was in another safe very well hidden. He puts it down to this plan that he and his family were not harmed.
I think given that the majority of this forum stash within their premises, it might be an idea to have a small part if your less valuable stack in a small safe not too well hidden and as honey stacker says another well hidden with the rest of the stack.

Great idea but smiled at this line!

Does that mean that he would have allowed the family to be harmed over providing the location of the real safe!

    LOL

Lol... Not sure I will ask him..... Knowing the wife he might have had to think about it.

I think if the thief knows you have valuables then getting some from a safe might diffuse the situation. Depends what they know about you I suppose. I know there was a sad case on here recently of a stacker losing everything.
It makes me wonder about you guys down under meeting up etc..... Is that not a risk issue?? I suppose I am putting myself at some element of risk by being on this forum. With in my circle of friends and family no one knows I stack PM's. I am divorced so no wife to worry about my buying. Be a sudden shock if I kick it and the will is read out..... My daughter will be one happy lady.
