I just brought 3 10oz bars from the perth mint and they arrived like this, not very impressed. Sorry about the crappy quality
I watched a few videos on youtube, alot used aluminum foil and bi carb? whats the difference between that and your video posted above with the cloudy ammonia?
It's almost like one of them is chipped away at the bottom, it feels alot rougher then the other one with alot of tarnish on it.
Without seeing your bars, the bottom of a bar will be rougher when compared with the polished top. Just weigh them. As long as they are 10oz all is good. Don't worry about aesthetics.
just weighed them with my scale, there all good. My next question is, if I leave them as is. Will the tarnish on the bars tarnish other bars that arnt already if I stack them together?
No need for airtites. There has been a fair amount of "crud" on cast Perth Mint silver bars for the last few months - doesn't affect their resale value, just makes them look crap.
Cloudy Amonia is not required for 999 or better silver. All 'tarnish' can be removed through the normal foil, bicarb, hot water method. Amonia is really only needed to assist with dirt buildup and if the coin is less than 999. I've done many coins and bars over the years, the PM bars should just need a wipedown and if tarnished, the water bath described above.
+1 And even then water and bicarb without soaking can be enough (just requires a bit more "scrubbing").
It'll take more than cloudy ammonia to clear up those blurry, low rez, out of focus bullion bars
Same here. Got from the mint they all like that. Ask the sales they said is normal. And paid over 300 for the bar each. After burn marks I guest. In my opinion the mint have No QC at all. Other countries are proud of what they produce. Eventhough it is just a bar or bars at spot with official Perth Mint stamp on it too. Hear this Perth Mint. Make it look good, not unappetite looking block. Lately it is getting WORST. Perth Mint please do something about it. I just around the corner of the mint.
I know how you feel, check out my post here about how I cleaned mine up, http://forums.silverstackers.com/to...er-bars-direct-from-the-perth-mint-today.html Regards Dags
