Maybe, but I think it's mainly a means to provide a kilo product that still avoids VAT for sale within EU, since they are coin shaped and thus legal tender. It's an advantage versus bars.

Well, there is already a Cook Island 'mintbar' since many years, so this new kilocoin design is not like necessary to avoid the higher full tax in several countries, it's more of a new way to do so.
