Losing our freedom in the name of safety? Sounds awfully familiar..... I don't think we need more rules imposed on us when it isn't a major problem or likely to increase much in size. Bullion Baron raises a very good point about how doing this would not allow us to warn others of scammers. But whatever....its up to GP. I'll still be coming here regardless.
Shall we take a stroll back to the dragon release? I don't think "we" are as squeaky clean as many would like to assume Allowing no feedback at all will just encourage the dodgy people that frequent the forum who want to trade on ignorance or just squeeze fellow stackers Look, you have to be realistic here and appreciate the fact that whilst we're something of a "community" on SS, there's still going to be some very opportunistic and unscrupulous elements who frequent this place looking for a sucker to make a profit from I highly doubt GP has either the time or inclination to police seller conduct and for those newer members who are either unseasoned or assume that everyone on SS is honest and trustworthy, I'd expect the bad elements to be really encouraged to give it a swing This forum has changed a lot in the last few years and its not going to be a shock revelation to any veteran around here that whilst at the core there's a community of honest and well meaning people on SS, there's also some real sacks of shit around here who will happily screw someone over and claim the other party should have just done their own due dilligence on a trade or sale Our trade forum has already had a number of questionable sellers and buyers conducting business (enough to invoke a thread like this in the first place) You go gagging everyone and its just ringing the dinner bell for the shonks around here IMHO
So what do we do , leave it like it is ? With all the mud slinging going on about prices Newbies need to do a lot of reading before the try to sell something on here Especially when they're first post is I have XXXXXXXX for sale , just send me your $ Quiet often I see a dumb ass sales thread , so I'll just leave alone , WHO CARES really The seller should figure it out , if after a week they get no replies  If they don't Well maybe they will ask a question or do some homework NEWBIES need to do a lot of reading first , before asking questions that get asked every couple of months " USE THE SEARCH FEATURE " " USE THE SEARCH FEATURE "
I thought this thread was about commenting in sales threads. If newbs pay to much that's their own fault. At least that's the way I look at it. As far as commenting goes it's all fun and games to some, frustrating to others. Can be helpful at times or harmful and rude to the seller at others. If your a seller why not just tell em to turtle off it's none of your business. By then your thread will be trashed and would need cleaning up. Or just "Report" them and be done with it. They may get a slap on the wrist or a warning. I fully support you here Spanner if you remember. I think a "Trading Etiquette Read Before Buying or Selling" sticky would be helpful. At least it would be a reference to refer to when it's time to remind someone to mind their manners and stay out of other's business. Is it to much to ask fully grown mature adults this??? :/ It wouldn't be imposing any law or rules like you stated in the other etiquette thread you started that got trashed. More or less a Gentleman's guide to buying and selling(women not excluded)
I agree that a sticky guide to trading etiquette would be very useful. Sometimes newbees and the odd long timer needs a gental reminder of what good manners are, a quick PM redirecting an 'offender' to a trading etiquette sticky thread would avoid compleatley trashing someones sales thread and give a member who has made a faux par the opportunity to edit their post with out undergoing a public flamming. If however they are repeat offenders then flame away.
+1 to the sticky guide to trading...so even better, somehow force new registered users to read it first?
Completely agree with this. I think a trading glossary needs to be included too, for example including words such as 'ramping', 'gouging', 'lowballing', and 'excessive bumping'. That's certainly something I've been seeing around of late, and I've even had a few of my own threads flamed for no legitimate reason. I agree that there IS a need to police those who trash other's sales threads, however also to point people in the right direction in how to deal with a poor thread or a price you don't agree with etc. It's give and take...
So if someone trys to sell something not-quite-right nobody else can question the validity of the item. A seller tried to flog off some fake "natural" Silver Nuggets on here. If not for a couple of dilligent members pointing out they might be dodgy they would have sold for a very high and fraudulent premium. A certain .999 Bull also comes to mind...
That's exactly the problem. Anybody can have his own little opinion about what is legit or not, and just brings down a sale even though it's just normal trade occuring. If a fraud is happening, why not just report the OP? What I see is either ignorance from noobs that don't know when to use PM, and envy from some that just can't stand seing others making a profit. Just my opinion.
And, if we actually look at an example recently. Where someone did say something, someone then shot them down. In the end it worked out the seller had made a mistake and the person questioning was actually correct. So an example where it was warranted. I do agree it annoys at times, but it going to happen. So what !! If that is the worst we have to worry about, then we really don't have too many problems hey.
Thread should be derailed if its incorrect or fraudulent. If someone derails a thread and they are wrong, this gets pointed out by someone else and the thread remains in good order and has also been given some free bumps. If the goods, price and seller are legit then this can actually help a sale rather than hinder it.
this is the second thread about this issue in a short period of time...and nothing has changed... always will be someone who just cannot behave and have the urge to comment on sales threads or just looking for attention...but sometimes-I gotta say-the comments are eye-opener-especially for newbies...just go with the flow and concentrate on what is for sale and do yr own homework
so wrong. the doubt created is the worst. uncertainty chase the buyers away. any sales professional knows that.
Not if the doubt raised is incorrect and this is corrected by an experienced or respected member. If you want sterile no-comment threads, go to ebay. Nobody has any doubts about buying stuff off there.
I reckon RhythmDoctor's signature is a good one for Trading Etiquote... "Place your chips where you may and let reality be the final arbiter."
OK I think we've danced this before & it's getting us nowhere I give up on caring About the newbies making an ass of themselves  Let the flaming continue But I'm keeping out of it from here on in
