Can anyone help me with a little info on the 1oz N.Z. Silver Ferns? I understand they're minted by the N.Z. Mint but they don't have a "Face Value" also, the one I have is stamped .9999 Any information appreciated. [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/8365_2012-10-14_214511.png][/imgz]
NZ Mint is just a private company - these are just silver rounds, not legal tender. I'd expect fair value to be the same as a common legal tender coin like an ASE or a Maple.
Thanks Gold Pelican!! I was wondering why there was no Face Value on it, so much so that I questioning it's legitimacy at first. (it was from the 888 guys I mentioned in the other post) If it's worth $60 odd N.Z.$ I'm wrapped
From the website: Click the Bullion tab - they're only $48 NZD in tubes, which is about $38.35 AUD. Right now a single ASE is selling on Gold Stackers for $39.25 - a 90c difference.
I've noticed the new ferns are shown the website as 999. Does this mean a higher premium for the 9999 versions?

I bought one off ebay for my collection a few months ago for $AU44 (which was 32% over spot at the time). Did I pay too much - for sure but I liked the design. I wouldn't stack this round not worth the premium.
They are one of the better rounds produced and well worth having a few in your stack even with the premium price I have several of these
Sadly they only seem to have 6 left at the moment :/ As per their site: "We're sorry. We have now only 6 units of the product Silver Fern 1oz Bullion left in stock." I do like the design though. That being said, I really want to get some Maples and ASE's, after the holidays that is.
I would say AUD$40 would be the bench mark......for a perfect coin. Unfortunately these coins were not issued in capsules and had a tendency of having excessive scuff marks, resulting in the coin only being worth spot. Stunning coin though, if fortunate enough to have one in excellent condition.
I don't know about these ferns. The design is definitely good. I thought the finished product was crap though. I saw a roll of them and they just looked kind of cheap. For the design, I'd much rather have the 1949 NZ Crown which is similar, has roughly the same premium over spot (for VF or XF grade), and has much more numismatic value and importance. The quality is much better too.
I purchased a single NZ fern recently in my quest to collect bullion silver coins from around the world. I didn't notice until after placing my order that it was lacking a face value and year. Yes I do feel like I overpayed for this round, but it's not like I was buying a stack of these so no big deal. By the way, the one I have is the .999 version.
