Ways to save money to allow you to BUY MORE METALS

Just wondering if any stackers had any good ideas on ways to save money, allowing for more metals and possibly something a little more ingenious than pounding the pavements collecting cans?

I myself just a few months ago bought an iphone 4s outright second hand for $350 and have switched over providers and am now paying an $18 a month on my mobile plan and have been the plan 3 months and its not locked into a ridiculous 1-2 year contract and i have'nt gone over the cap so have already saved $66 over the 3 months.

 

Don't drink - If you do then get takeways.
Don't smoke
Take your lunch rather than buying
Give up the cafe coffee, stick with instant in the office
Walk or bike if you can

It doesn't take much to get a few ounces of Ag a week

Go vegetarian, then use a a basis of beans or rice or potatoes for a lot of cooked meals
Today at an IGA store I bought a pile of lady finger bananas that were a bit blemished and replaced by new stock - price slashed, peaches same.

Tea in preference to coffee
Home brew if a drinker
Cancel subscriptions you can do without, e.g Austar Foxtel
Walk instead of drive

 

Looks like errol43 has been on a bit of a roll this year

 

Invest in a chest freezer and buy half a cow at any one time from the butcher.

They will break it down to all the standard cuts eg T bones, Porterhouse, skirt, eye fillet and the rest gets converted to mince or sausages.

It works out to be $7.00 a kg compared with approx $34 a kg for eye fillet.

Ask them for the bones (a treat for Fido that you'd otherwise pay for) and if you like cooking, make stock out of the bones.

Eat well and save for your silver stash.

 

Have you ever tried using one of those ???? Terrible.

Are you good at anything that might earn you a $100.00 or so a week ? Is there something you could source locally that you could sell on fee bay for $100.00 or so a week ?

I used to sell tree seeds from hard to find species on fee bay and did quite well from it. Eating mince five nights a week is not sustainable in my opinion , nor is pounding the pavement collecting cans, but what if you could nail a mega can collection at a single event ? One weekend of collecting at some event/place may be worthwhile.

Pocket change has been a good passive earner for my bro inlaw. It takes very little research to know what to look for and cost's you nothing to look each time you get some pocket change.

I dont know where you are from but even a mango tree in your backyard at this time of year can earn you a buck with an honesty basket on the side of the road, the same for lychees or cherry's as well. Take a look around on your regular travels and see what others are doing to earn an extra dollar here and there and steal and/or adapt what they are doing to suit yourself.

As the legendary errol43 stated from small stacks big stacks grow, every little bit adds to the pile so whatever you can manage to sort out that adds just a little bit over time will be worth the effort over the long run, just an extra oz or two a week over a couple of years is a kilo or six extra in the stack .

This is a fantastic idea for cow eaters. Seriously. And this is coming from a vegetarian!

 

Instead of paying for Metals storage or a friggen huge inground safe hide your stash in tins of IR.

You can fit a lot of stuff in the extra-large-mega-sized tins and no way will anyone ever steal them.

Think lateral, not latte!

 

Not a cow mate! The poor old thing has probably just about had it in the milk department, now off to the meat dept. Buy a half a bullock or yearling...Never buy meat with bright yellow fat. It is probably is what is called in the meat trade, a cracker cow. Always take into account the amount of bone and fat in a carcass , as it raises the cost per kg.

Never the less, it is a good way to save money! A hind quarter has the best quality cuts so sometimes a 1/4 is better than a 1/2.

Take heed people, there is a man who knows his steak, yellow fat equals old has been beef, nice white and marbled is what you are looking for.

 

IF you don't use the phone a lot, get the $1 a month TPG plan pay as you go.

Cut all bank accounts that cost you money in monthly fees etc. Likewise for credit cards.

If you buy with paypal internationally & regularly use the 28 degrees mastercard to save on FX fees.

Ditch the car if you don't need it.

Get a low level or cheap 2nd hand android phone instead of the iPhone/SGS3.

Walk to places instead of driving/taking PT if you can.

Get a fan instead of an air-con for summer. For winter wear more clothes instead of using a heater.

Cut any unneeded insurance payments. For example if you're 24 you don't really need insurance against say arthritis.

Eat out less, eat more at home.

Skip movies at the cinema and watch at home on DVD/Bluray when they come out in 6 months time.

Cut the cable TV (eg. Foxtel).

Don't smoke (at all). Don't drink (as much or at all). Don't drink coffee.

 

International Roast is the fiat of coffees. That is, it's a ghost of coffee and not real coffee itself.

Like fiat, it will also leave an unsavoury, bitter taste in your mouth if you use it.

Just saying.

 

My family used to make cordial, fill it 3/4 and freeze it to make slurry drink whenever we go out, this will cut 1/2 of drinks that we buy.

If you do need to buy cold drink, buy it at supermarket, much cheaper than food court or restaurant.

If you big on coffee, buy one of those nespresso machine and re-useable cup...coffee on the go instantly.

Toy library is what we do every fortnight...save heaps on buying toys.

Bring home any leftover from BBQ or dinner party.

Bring leftover for lunch.

If you like going to the cinemas, ask around your friend or colleague (like me) who can get movie tix under $10.

Take home extra satchel of sugar/salt/pepper/serviette whenever you can.

Bring an empty container filled with cereal to work, then grab the free milk at tea room, cheap breakkie.

 

Oh I forgot one... check ozbargain & see if they have any deals posted if you need to buy something.
