hi not sure if its discussed here but if i have 10 *1oz gold coins which have street value of ~$17,000 but face value of AUD$2000 (10*$200) ...would i need to declare the coin at customs when leaving australia? Thanks.
From http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4350.asp#e1283 The form linked to explicitly states to exclude items such as jewellery not readily identifiable. This is more a case of if you intend to bring it back into Australia - if you're taking it out and not returning it, it's less than $10,000 AUD face value, so should be fine not to declare. Always worth checking directly with Customs though.
