    hi everyone,
i have just started "collecting" silver and i have bought some 1kg metal or bars. i have done all the tests possible to verify that they are real silver, but the weight is what concern me. all my bars weigh 1003.2g, is that plausible? i find it strange that they are 3.2g over weight, as i don't expect any free extra silver in the bars. any of you that has 1kg metal or bar can please weight them and report back with the exact weight?
    Many thanks,
    Laura

sorry when i said all the possible tests, i meant all the ones i could, such as the magnet test, calliper, ping and weight. i can send some photos if that will help, but i wanted to know if other people that owns Metalor 1kg bars have weighted them and also are a bit over.
do you think/know is ok for that bit extra? thanks

I wouldnt worry about it too much Misty - its quite common for a bar to be poured over, as it is an offence to have underwieght bars.

I think I may have a Metalor bar lying around somewhere - I will weigh it when I get the chance and PM you the weight if that helps.

As for testing - if youre concerned the easiest thing to do is take them into your local dealer and get them to XRF them for you.

thanks Au-mageddon, as i said i am "new" to this, so i wasn't sure, but thanks for your reply, it puts my mind at ease. i thought about getting it looked at by a dealer, any idea of how much roughly do they charge for a XRF? thanks

Usually free of charge if you ask nicely.

You may also fund some gold scrap dealers around who have XRF's as well.

Don't worry about it. Just about everything is over-weight by a tiny fraction.
