    AHH - You gotta laugh!!

Guy turned up today with has father in tow. Apparantly he told his father that I had ripped him off by only giving him $20 for the coins (which turned out to be his fathers).

After we reviewed the security camera footage together his father really ripped into this guy (he's probably about 18-20 years old - dad was in his late 50s). I had to close the front door because of the language that was drifting out onto the street. It was all very entertaining. Then dad made the guy buy them back off me at market value (including the 1/2 oz mouse) and gave him $20 for them. Geez - I almost wet myself I was laughing so hard by this stage.

I'd love to put the security footage on here for entertainment value but I guess that's the wrong thing to do :) Best laugh I've had in a while. And probably the most profitable!

Makes me wonder what sort of relationship (father and errant son) have for him to take what does not belong to him and flog it off for $20.

    So, stolen from dad then?

What's this world coming to? :(

If you don't mind me asking... just what WAS the market value of what the kid had to pay back?

    Talk about an expensive lesson...

i would quite like to see that footage? does it have audio?
i don't think uploading it would be immoral or the wrong thing to do at all...
you caught a classic moment on camera... i think the world deserves to see it :D
if you're really worried about upsetting people, maybe you could blur the faces.. :p
but even if you don't upload it. the images i have conjured up in my head are giving me a good giggle anyway :p

Makes you wonder who has the most blame. The kid or the dad?

Perhaps dad's fault for not spending enough time teaching him why stealing is wrong. Or perhaps the kid is just bad?

Be careful about putting the footage on the net. I know people who've been sued for less than that.

Actually, when dealing with kids, public shame can be a very powerful motivator.

Children (especially teens) value the opinion of their peers in much higher stead than most adults do.

I've no doubt this little life lesson in full view of the public would reinforce the point more vigorously than a tongue lashing at home.

The only thing that would enforce the point more I think would be if one of the kid's friends was present for the exchange.

That said, stealing from strangers is bad in itself - but to steal from your own family?

    Wow.

You'd be surprised how effective a COLLOSAL arse-kicking can be in returning kids to reality.

really snaps 'em out of it
