Electricity charges set to rise here in Qld..

Electricity charges set to rise here even though it was a promise to lower the living costs for Queenslander's!

Now we have two Liars to put up with, Campbell and Julia.

Set yearly charges set to rise from $90 p.a. to $290.. charge per kwh to reduce from 23cents to 20 cents

    Waaaaaaak up SHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

Solar users will again have to pay...no more free electricity.

Pensioners..Don't worry, you are about to get a $10 a week subsidy from Julia in March 2013, just hand it over to Can Do Campbell. :)

Sorry I have to go now,I amoff to the garage to find my baseball bat!

I was always under the impression that the Libs believed in user pays..Now even those with solar power will have to pay. Oh what a sorry lot of Politicians we have.

They are all the same I tell ya!

    Go Mitt Obama! :)

That sort of depends what the situation is.

If the user is paying their mates and party donors, then yes, that's true.

If their mates and party donors are using public assets or resources, then no, it doesn't apply.

All the eastern states have the problem of 10+ years of Labor government lack of investment in the electricity system infrastructure. Hey presto VIC/NSW/QLD suddenly have changes of government and the Libs realise that money needs to be spent or failures of ageing components will exacerbate the pain that is already coming.

So don't be angry at one, be angry at them both. But the infrastructure needs to be upgraded one way or another so I'm more angry at Labor. If the wholesalers were privatised as well as the retail electricity companies, we perhaps would see prices come down through genuine competition. But true competition will happen when pigs fly.

Just be grateful you don't have the costs of Labor white elephant desalination plants to pay for on your rates too, like VIC/NSW.

I never seen so many power poles & lines being replaced as I have down here in SE Qld at the moment. And many of them in dire need too.

But it's just not the power lines either. The roads have been neglected. Many landslips still haven't even been touched. Water and sewage lines too. All coming to a head at once... :(

Yes, in Victoria its the fault of those rotten bastards who havent spent anything on infrastructure for the last decade or so.

Lousy pricks caused most of the damage during the Black Saturday fires due to not maintaining trees near powerlines also.

The rot set in when the power industry was PRIVATISED BACK IN THE 1990s by a Mr .J Kennett.

Plenty of competing private Companies there. Not much downward price competition going on though.

Sept 2005 The Beattie government announced the deregulation of the electricity industry

    September 28, 2005
Peter Beattie guarantees no one will pay more for electricity when full retail competition comes into effect in 2007. He says household electricity wills will be cut by $150 a year.

or will they say gotta pay service charges because of surrounding infrastructure?

Yes we have a white elephant desalination plant on the Gold Coast...When the big drought was on, that was when the knee jerk reaction took place..Citizens demanded the Government do something..The Gods were not impressed and sent a huge flood and so the drought was no longer an issue but big money was already spent. Yes true competition was not the order of the day when the Snowy Mountain System was implemented...NSW and Vic were the big winners...cheap electricity and subsequent growth..Qld missed the boat then so don't be too concerned, Can Do Campbell will have water on his radar soon. We have to pay for that Desalination Plant somehow!.

    Not my mentors!

But it's good to see passion flow from people who are awake.

Can't really see how anyone (when they truly understand what's going on) doesn't want to pick up a bat and crack a few skulls.

Anger at the system implies you still have a spine.

    Hey Errol
I wondered about solar users - wasted my money there. The fixed charge for smaller users is supposed to also pay for the solar scheme. So do the solar scheme users have to pay for it as well?

I've already paid out $10k to save power over the next 20 years. Looks like that's a loser.

People in Sydney can only dream of .20c per KW.

Lets be realistic. Campbell inherits a badly broken system and near broke government and because he doesn't, within the span of a few months fix everything and turn the state into a utopia where everyone has a cushy well paid job and the public transport and electricity systems haven't been rebuilt to perfection he is a evil and a liar of the calibre of Gillard?

Yes its possible and is being done, however most are Going 100% Solar and 'feeding back into the grid'
Personally i think discretion is the better part of common sense and like water tanks if you are going to detach from paying bills i would keep my mouth shut.
As to 'But i won't get rebates',if you can afford a truly stand alone suburban system then you can choose to sacrifice the money for future hassles.

Errol 43,don't feel alone mate we got a Desal plant(In Victoria) that we haven't used and is costing an extra $200+ per ratepayer.
Talked to a few who worked on the Desal and you quickly get the impression that it could have been built for half the cost with better management.
The workers on that job considered it a "Feeding Frenzy" of high wages.
Government and business should never mix.

Was glad to see you making a post again..If you are a big user of electricity, you may finish up OK provided the government doesn't drop the price paid to houses with solar for electricity generated..Small electricity users will be the ones affected most.

As stated in a previous post, you can always go off grid by installing batteries..Major problem would be on rainy or cloudy days, would you be able to generate enough power to run your house.

Remember there are always other options that politicians don't think about but when they do they change the rules.

Hope you post a few more. Always enjoyed some of the topics you raised.

    Regards Errol 43
