So probably a Macquarie Mint offering then..?

Not a fan of silver plating a coin, why not just make it in silver in the first place?

I guess if you like the picture then why not? I am not that excited by any of the Snake offerings so far.

What makes you say that? He said it was up online on ECI...

I think the design is fantastic. I ordered one yesterday. Really different take on the whole lunar thing. Not really fussed it's not full silver, as the price is representative of that and my wallet has been taking a pounding as of late! haha

The Macquarie Mint is owned by Downies and makes quite a few coins, including the $10 for a $10 coins http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1946748 and http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-14830-macquarie-mint-10-coin.html so they have a bit of a colourful history with coin collecting on a par with the Pobjoy and Franklin Mints, deserved or not .

If you like the design and you like the price and you aren't hoping that it is going to be a great investment coin then why not add it to the collection?

That really doesn't mean much at all.
And going by the mintage of 1.5k, i doubt they'll be anywhere close to touching it. It'll be sold out in a few weeks I rekon.

What it means is you are buying a coin from a company with a reputation for churning out crap and if you were wanting to go for investment coins then probably best to ignore it but if you want it for your collection then by all means add one.

They have had a few difficulties in the past when they minted a coin for a country without that country knowing anything about it but apparently they are all friends now.

They sell $10 coins for $10 but you are giving $10 Australian for $10 Kiribati or Niue or somewhere else like that. Once again not illegal or anything but when a company resorts to deceptive marketing you have to wonder what else they are up to.

They sell silver coins but you have to dig through a lot of crap before finding out exactly how much silver is in the coin as the finess and weight are often hard to find in the literature.

That's all it means and if that doesn't bother you then there is no problem.

Yeh, my point here is that it is not currently being offered by Mac Mint, and as far as I can tell, they did not have any part in the development of the coin - so why should it have any bearing on your choice to purchase one?
When I purchased mine, all of the info on the coin was easily accessible and there was no hidden or miss-leading information. I mean, even the fact it was silver-plated was included in the title of its product page!

Shame they wasted such a great design on a plated coin.

Yep.. its a horrible trend when major mints are churning out Limited Edition Heavy premium silver plated base..

I wish these coins didnt exist and would never ever again consider purchasing, i got pissed with that legends of music series being a base metal set.. farking sucks.. the money they charge i reckon 50% minimum or make them 12 grams of 999 if they want to make greedy profits.

Id rather an honest CuNi coin rather than PLATE... Grrrr Peeeeve
