How would you feel about losing this stash? Deep-sea explorers have pulled up 48 tons of silver treasure from three miles below the surface of the North Atlantic in what may be the deepest, largest precious metal recovery in history. http://news.discovery.com/history/biggest-treasure-yet-hauled-from-shipwreck-120718.html
Well I went on this fishing expedition... decided to take my stack... run into a little bit of trouble and BANG front page of the news. Oh the shame
I wouldn't imagine there would be a great deal of profit left for the Odyssey with their 80% share after their expenses. The value of the loot only equates to $40.5million USD, I can't even imagine the running costs of the ship and equipment involved to recover treasure from 3km below sea level.
Can anyone see who made the bars they're finding? The figures quoted on the company's website suggests they're 1000oz bars, but there isn't any mention of the manufacturer(s).
So let me get this straight... 1. Britain puts 48 tons of silver on an unarmed 20yo steam merchant ship 2. She joins a convoy sailing at 8 knots through the German wolfpacks at height of the Battle of the Atlantic 3. Gairsoppa splits off from the convoy and sets course for Galway harbour to refuel by herself <face palm>
