Hi all as everyone else i dont want to purchase the silver at a high price esspecially since 20% VAT but everyone keeps saying its low now in comparrison to what it has been, if u look over the last 20-30 years it seems to peak at around 50 and goes down to 5 at times thats over 34 years from this site http://silverprice.org/silver-price-history.html/ i want to buy now but does anyone think will drop this low again ? i know no one can really know but what is ur prediction ? does anyone think it will fall that low again ? also what is your favorite bars to purchase in the uk ? i only have 1 x 250gram bar from baird and co and its really nice also wating on 8 x johnson matthews 1oz bars but not arrived yet Thanks dean
why the 20 % VAT on silver not gold is that like a 500 year old tax old king whatever put on to make the silver stay in the to dos hands? you guys better start writing the gov and remind them its not 1650 anymore as for price who knows but just get started and add as you go that's why its fun.
In the UK both gold and silver were subject to VAT (currently 20%). In January 2000 the government implimented a new law..... that gold for investment purposes only, would become VAT free. Silver would not be covered by this new law, and would remain subject to VAT. Don't ask me why.
Hopefully will go up to very high prices in future and make money back with profits feels safer then having loads of savings and seems like good investment to me as I suspect prices will eventually go up
nice bars, i like the medium sized bars likr 5oz 100g and even the 250oz not to big but just right. yeah i am trying to invest best i can at the moment Thanks for sharing pics Dean
Frankly Deano if you are concerned prices will fall that much and you cannot afford sleepless nights on the price, then other than full on numismatic bars such as those LB speaks of (which would command a real hefty premium at a guess) is it prudent to be buying bullion bars that are at the pleasure of daily spot prices to start with? Legal tender coins that are semi numismatic and go for little more than a bar should and do ( I own enough) significantly reduce risk in silver. Do some research in the coins section and you should feel far less apprehensive going forward with those types of punts. As an example, the recent fall from $37 to $26 again, hasn't seen any value depreciation in most if not all of the coins I hold. Some have actually risen. What has it done to a Metalor bar or such? Ouch.
thats very helpful thanks i have read and susspect that coins are a lot more collectable but will have to read up as not a clue whats good etc or collectable will start looking into cins aswel thanks for advice Dean
I would weep over that one too Ladybird, I've got this 100 grams Pretty similar but they have hallmarks that date them to 1969... I don't think I'd ever let it go...
I think the only way around the 20% VAT is to buy in germany for 7% Vat and store it in germany till you want to resell. Or buy it in person in Germany and fly it back with you.
Wow. That hallmarked bar is BEAUTIFUL! I have a thing for both poured bars, and excessively hallmarked jewellery, and that combines both of those! It definitely adds character, but I'm intrigued about the hally. Is it a customs and excise (import) mark, or is it an assay mark? I can see the makers mark, and crown, but the other symbols elude me. I'm almost certain one is a year mark, but no centre of assay seems to be present, I half expected to see a Birmingham anchor on it for a moment or a london Worshipful Company of Silversmiths. Very interesting bar, I'd love one like that in my collection! RD
Well you're right that it is an Assay mark, it's from a set of four bars representing four assay offices,( sheffield, bermingham, london, and Edinburgh that were produced in 1969. I actually have the sheffield bar as well but am missing the other two. If you like overly hallmarked stuff the sheffield has eveneven one more hallmark than the other One lol. Every now and again you will see an entire set but not too often.
There wouldn't be anyway to grease that one out of your palms now would there RM? I got a roll of walking liberty halves with you name on it
good article. I like it so much. I like to ask you that how much I invest in gold for getting good dividend. Please do share your experiences.
