Hi all, I am new to SS and have started my collection by buying the Gual 1kg bars and coins....I like them .....however I have seen one well known member trying to sell the Gual 1kg bars and they seem to have been a slow mover compared to most items on here even considering his fine pricing.. http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-28191-for-sale-i-kg-silver-bars-melbourne-f2f-or-post.html I would have bought them myself but I am done till next month when new funds come in....... my question is are they not a well know brand or is there some other reason why they have not gone quickly...would it have been different for him had they been PM 1kg bars or pamp.. I want to make sure I am stacking a liquid product.... I have also bought a few 1kg pamp but the premium is alot considering it is just silver in the end ?? be interested to hear others view kind regards
In May I was favoring the Perth Mint Keggers. In June I pretty much went PAMP crazy ... Needed the nice black boxes ... Turtle the Certificates though. In July there is a new favorite ....
I have never heard of guals, but then i haven't been stacking for too long. I prefer the PM ones over PAMP, but I have just spotted that goldstackers is now selling silver stackers 1 kg casts and I will be aiming to get some of those.
I think people just stick with what they know. I mean Gual? i'd buy a 1oz gual, maybe a 10oz chunky gual, but a 1kg gual? so many better options.
Please elaborate. Silver is silver is silver is silver. Whether it is "brand" or a local merchant, in the end 1 oz of silver is only WORTH 1 OZ OF SILVER. Unless of course you don't mind paying exrtra for a brand, serial number or a certificate which in the end mean SFA! Same with "collector" bars?? All the add-ons are simply clever marketing! Perhaps a little like any national, well marketed and established brand versus home brand. The basic ingredients are similar; with silver the basic ingredient is 100% identical! The only bars I avoid are the FUGLY bars! I like Gual because their 1 kg bars are locally made, competitively priced, they sponsor this forum and the people there treat their customers with respect! What "fancy" brand does all that?
Clawhammer says "Embrace the FUGLY!!!" ...and I would know I've got a few. No emotional or setimental attachment...far easier to flogg off when it's time to sell. Silver is Silver is Silver you wanna see what happens to those expensive polished Perth Mint bars after a few years... all that extra premium just flakes away
Very very true. Thats why its so hard to sell coins like lunars and kooks.... sentimental attachment!! Its the biggest killer! lol
why do you think that was?? its interesting to see different premiums from a beginners point of view. when silver was running up were the pamp bars in short supply so the premium blew out a little or ..do people feel more secure in a well known brand ?? just hard to get my head around.
???? do the PM bars or for that matter any highly polished bar start to flake ...can you give more detail as to what happens and why.....do you need to keep bars in air tight bags??
Couldn't easily find any recent picks of PM Bars..but here's an example Rbaggio posted of a couple of Ainsley Bars with a similar patina/degradation http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/478_untitled999.png Hang on...here's a whole thread on the subject... http://forums.silverstackers.com/to...ct-my-perth-mint-silver-bar-to-be-page-1.html
thanks for the background..although reading the thread the bars were disfigured from wear and tear rather than some process of oxidation or ?? I am not sure where the flaky aspect occurs..if at all over the years..
Those marks on the bar are crystallisation from the cooling process... but they do come a bit rough from the refinery division that manufactures them for the mint (they are not made at the Hay St facility). http://forums.silverstackers.com/message-216297.html#p216297 The pic in this post is fairly typical of cast bars. Some times you get really nice ones, some times you don't. At the end of the day though, you've still got correct weight, correct fineness silver.
