The first one for 2012 is to be released on 6/1 at apmex http://www.apmex.com/Product/67056/2012_5_oz_Silver_ATB_El_Yunque_National_Park_Puerto_Rico_6_1.aspx I bought mine last Wed for $160
Hope to see for sale in the UK soon albeit at grossly inflated price plus the compulsory 20% VAT. ( Thinking about relocating to Greece as I understand no middle & higher earners pay any tax. )
I like it, some of the other ATB have been a little bit on the 'meh I give it a miss' side but this ones nice. Hope the forest theam makes for a good series this year. And score on the price, wish shipping didn't kill the appeal here in Aus.
The ATB coins (not actually a round) have had little love. But they are proving to be priced similar to spot as a bar so there's value there as opposed to a bar.
It just seems such an oxymoron.......... America the beautiful? 1 oz .999 silver is always beautiful, in any shape what-so-ever. For that reason, I like .999 silver in any form that is sold for close to spot.
Hey, no need to get nasty here Despite anyone's personal opinion of the gov't, we have some of the most beautiful landscape in the world... as does every other country. Even though I don't collect the ATB series, I'm glad to see the USMint putting out something different. I think they get too hung up on US patriotic themes sometimes.
^^^ Agreed. The US Mint seems to base their coin themes solely on the American market. Lets be honest here, who else but an Americans wants to buy a coin (and pay a % over spot) with a great big US flag on it? Or the statue of liberty? Or dead US Presidents' heads? Better to have themes that appeal to a worldwide audience than just the US domestic market IMHO!
^^^ agreed! I've spent alot on coins from RCM and PM and only bought one US coin this year. And I'm an American!
I'd actually be quite happy with a 5oz ASE... The problem with the ATB series is that landscapes don't often translate well into bas relief so many of them look "busy" but the detail just doesn't come through.
I have the Yellowstone ATB coin. One thing I do like about them is they are relatively thin compared to say the Perth Mint's 5oz Lunars. As such there's more to "see" on the coin.
I like this one, others were really average.. ill consider getting this from BB as the prices are decent.. cheers. 1for1
How many 1oz silver eagles did they sell last year? around 40 million IIRC. Somebody's buying them.....
In terms of "appeal", I think Matt MAY have meant collector appeal ie beauty. The ASE's (40 million according to your figures) do have an investor appeal as you as you appear to allude to, mostly to Americans or investors. But as a coin, they are as UGLY as hell in terms of collector appeal ie beauty. Downright ugly. So much so, that the addage, "so ugly only a mother could love it" rings a bell for me. Nope, not much appeal to me although I do have a few k in my stash purely for their silver content value. For appeal, I'd rather turn to the varying panda designs. My apologies in advance if I upset any thin skinned patriots from the USA.
No offense taken luke Dear Australia, Help, We are being held hostage by our govt. Please send Lawyers, Guns and Money. TSHHTF! Thank You Melty In other news... Chaco Culture 5oz bullion went on sale yesterday for a 7/6 delivery.
these are nice...does anyone know if these would all be considered "proof" I was browsing around on a few sights and saw some graded ones that said DPML..or Deep Cameo. i like these but just cannot get myself to buy them as i hate the huge presidents head on one side. If they had something other than some ugly old man i would buy a tube of them or at least a couple to round out my collection of larger coins and bullion rounds. Silverbulldog
these are not proof. just regular bullion. the only other option is an uncirculated version from the mint itself. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&identifier=8305 I personally like the bullion version. youtube probably has some examples. still at work or i would show pictures
Silverbulldog, those would be the bullion version. They are not proofs, technically, but they are much more shinier than the P-Version that is "Vapor Blasted" for a frosted effect. However, not all of the bullion versions are as shiny as the next, some are polished perfectly while others have scuff lines. If you want a perfect one you will probably have to by a graded one MS-69-70 to guarantee what you will get. The AP's (Authorized Purchasers) cherry pick the good ones and send them off to PCGS before the public gets theirs. Me, I just collect the raw bullion version. They are sold so close to spot price, that the future appreciation in value has nothing to do but go up.
