    Hey all,

Just wondering about copper as a possible investment, granted you will probably have to buy a few hundred KG's!
At the moment its at around $3.30 per lb US, seems for a very useful metal like copper a decent price.
    What do you all think?

    Cheers Jimmy

I had 5kg of copper 1c&2c pieces ,but it all takes up too much room .
It's a good medium if you collect copper cable & cash it in & buy silver/gold with your profits .
But stacking it long term ,NOT FOR ME ;)

Yep, get a few meters of industrial busbar and chop it into lengths with a power hacksaw. Mill a beveled edge on it and stamp it with your name, crest, weight and fineness... :D

A few people have considered it in the past

A small dollar amount takes up a lot of space, if you have a lot of money tied up in it you need a shed to keep it in.

The premiums on the copper rounds are ridiculous, they make the Perth Mint look like Crazy Clarks.

Copper goes off faster than silver and doesn't stop! Silver tarnish protects the surface of the silver, verdigris eats copper. Needs dry storage conditions (you wouldn't want to bury your stash.)

Copper is purely an industrial metal, if we see a global slowdown demand for copper will fall, along with the price.

If you stack it in a useful form, e.g. copper pipes or electrical cable then you might see a return as manufacturing costs may rise, bringing your prices up to match.

If we can't get people to see gold and silver as investments then copper will be a struggle.

I have a few investment grade rounds (Oz's work is high quality, I have a few of his) and the rest are just basically 1c and 2c coins which I dig up usually urban prospecting.

If you have the space, no reason not to put a few aside just in case.

Besides, if the 'true' market value of silver is realised down the road, it might be too expensive for day to day transactions anyway.

I have jars of copper coins (1c / 2c) and (1 Penny / Half Penny) as well as heaps of bars of Tin. Also heaps of Nickel coins etc. Thought it was kewl at the time to be a bit more diverse but in the end it's a wast of space, I mean it takes up a lot of room and if you add it all up it's worth very little.

Do yourself a favour and just stick to Silver or better yet trade me your Silver for all my Copper coins!

A one pound copper bullion makes a great blunt heavy object in a hostile gold or silver takeover

Platinum is the trade of kings
    Gold the trade of nobleman
Silver is the trade of the middle class
Barter is the trade of the peasants
Debt is the trade of slaves............ Or something like that

Copper ? Not sure where that fits in ?
