Are any of you starting to accept Silver or Gold as payment for your goods or services? Are you using Silver as a medium of exchange in buying or selling products? Do you have any plans to in the foreseeable future? I'm thinking that it might be time soon to start offering a small discount to customers who pay with Silver or Gold. Only concern is eliminating being burned with fake coins or bullion. Thoughts?
Business needs cash flow. So unless you can pay your business expenses in gold or silver it's not worth the hassle. I don't want to wait in line at a store while the clerk (now a trained precious metals dealer and numismatist) handles a bag of groceries. There is a reason why the barter system is mostly dead. Let my slide my credit card and get my stuff, I got things to do, I don't have time for this nonsense.
Saw this segment on Dateline regarding Greece and a local community is doing precisely that "Bartering" http://www.sbs.com.au/dateline/story/about/id/601479/n/Making-Money As a local community, I could see this system working very well if and when Australia is caught up in a Fiat showdown. Notice how this community used their own form of currency to determine pricing in relation to Goods and Services and the Euro. An easier way would be to use a Gold and Silver standard. Yes, most people prefer to be paid in fiat currency. But I think that's only because of habit. They're not ready yet to use silver or gold as money... But they will! As for me: I would actually prefer to be paid in silver and gold. I can replace that in the company coffers with my own cash, in those deals where it's my boss' money. (I manage marinas, and am in the process of negotiating the purchase of one or two) Yes, boys and girls - offering a fair and reasonable price discount for silver or gold payments seems reasonable to me. There are many, many advantages. I'm sure you can think of a few.
