Just a fun question to ask... raw/omp, graded, 1 coin, coin set, medal, gold, silver, palladium what ever...what would you get if you had an extra $5000 to burn right now.

For me, I would get the 1995, 1996 and 1997 China Romance of the Three Kingdoms 10 yuan 12 coin silver set.

The 1989 5 oz Guanyin is also on my wish list but only willing to pay around $2000 for a PF 69.

    Not MCC.

Buy a trip to China, and acquire key date pre-1970 1 & 2 Fen coins and perhaps one of the 1980 - 1985 proof mint set.

For me it's the 1983 1oz and 1/4oz gold BU coins in MS69 to complete my set.

or, I agree with Lightsview, any 5 coin proof set (OMP or graded)... undervalued atm

or 1990 Platinum x 3 coin proof set 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10thoz, preferable in high grade... There's a set in 69 on ebay right now.

    If it were me:

    Buy BIG3 OMP.
Then grade and hope for MS69s or MS70s.
If get MS68, then sell cheap and try again :)

What I'd actually do: I'd send all my coins to grade at NGC/NCS and flip them for profit THEN buy more :)

What I'd do if I couldn't do that:

I'd spend it on (a mixture of; in priority):

1989 5oz Silver Guan Yin (stop copying me! :D)
    1995 S10Y Proof Panda PF69
5oz Hong Kong Expo Panda (OMP/PF69)
Gold Pandas from eBay near melt (OMP)
    Mirrored S10Y MS69
    Micro Date S10Y MS69
    Serif 1 S10Y MS69
The remainder of my S10Y MS69 set...
    1984 PF69 Pagodas
Bi-metal/Platinum Panda sets from the 90s

I know 5k won't buy me all that but I'd probably get the top 3 for 5k :p

Just kidding I am married so I should say I would spend it on my wife, or fractional gold pandas.

Cheaper to spend on MCC at least its not necessarily a depreciating asset.

$5000 would just about complete my variety set by getting the big three in 69+ condition.. I have an '86 Gold Panda proof set in OMP if you want to give me the trade.:)

Even more importantly, if you had to start from scratch
and do it all over again, how would you make
a 10-15 year investment of $5000 right now?

That's a lovely set boz! I'd find it hard to part with that beauty though the Big 3 are definitely worthy trades.

I have a couple sets and parting with one for the addition to my Panda set would be nice for both traders.

The lowest I bought one of these sets was $800 USD. The Highest was $2900 right after they came out, lost money for years on that bet. Also had a couple of the 99 Gold 5 oz God Of Longevity medals at the time. Wish I had them now.
