Hi Guys Just got this coin today it is a 1/2oz Gilded lunar dragon. I have my suspicions that its not legit To me it looks like thed gilded part of the dragon has been 'painted/applied on' I have compared it to a once gilded dragon and I have noticed the following - The 1/2oz whiskers are not gilded - The claws or the 1oz are not gilded, and the 1/2oz is Also there is smugging at the back claw near the tail and some other parts of the coin. Here are the pics... tell me what you think...
+1 I expect it would be an after-market thing, gilded more popular in Europe than here. Check out silberstars.de for a range of gilded coins - pandas, libertads, elephants etc - beautiful looking coins.
It looks like a genuine 1/2 oz coin, but painted with gold colour. The gilded part looks quite messy and just plain wrong.
agree with this. have we seen gilded version of dragon for 1/2 oz since perth mint released the dragon?
Check with the mint but I don't think a 1/2 oz gilded is part of the official lunar series. This is an aftermarket addition, which is why it doesn't look right.
If you are curious, dab on a small amount of acetone. It will not do anything if its gold but if its paint based it will come off which might be the best result.
LOL.. looks better than the PM gilded ones.. go the home gilded job... ULTRA RARE>. one made.. now charge $1000 , thats how scarcity works right? 1for1
Hmmm, very poor counterfeit attempt at a gilded Dragon which size has not been realsed. Might be a 'keeper' as a mint mis strike worth $100's! After all, PM have a pretty high quality control
