Please only suggest practical uses for gold on this thread, not ridiculous stuff. This is not necessarily limited to a hypothetical zombie apocolypse scenario, just a list anyone of us with motivation and time can do if living an Amish life (i.e. self sufficient). No suggestions that remotely suggests 'monetary unit' or pure 'aesthetic appeal' (such as jewellery adornment). Let me start off with an example, - gold can be substituted for copper and used in electrical wiring. Alright, you caught me out, I am dumbo with practical uses for gold, and am hoping for you all to help me out.
teeth, you can have an awesome set of teeth, or fillings, chances are dentists won't be around so a cordless drill and gold to fill.
Edible gold is almost pure gold, but mixed with silver only, which is edible, so it is completely digestible. Edible Silver leaf is also available. Generally speaking, there is no danger in ingesting Edible Gold. Gold is an inert metal that simply passes through the intestinal system. Edible Gold will pass out of the body after about 24 hours unchanged without causing any harm or reaction on the body.
teeth is good one... i got all the dental tools too... who wants to be treated from me? just wait till you see my upcoming awesome opal teeth (excl. molars) -------- another is alternative energy using photosynthesis... actually reacts with the sun in an organic solution to produce a chemical reaction where the gold is RETRIEVABLE/RECYCLABLE/REUSABLE... i forget where i had read that (probably http://phys.org/ or some .EDU site) .
Oooh Awesome microphones! Seriously, green tea with gold specs, I have drank this before. Yes, gold doesn't have a smell or have a flavour. Something like this... http://www.hibiki-an.com/product_info.php/cPath/21/products_id/373
You are right Maggie - gold spheres and nano particles for breast cancer. The main cancer therapy metal is platinum. Cis- platinum and carbo-platinum are used in most chemo for all kinds of tumours.
Why aren't 'unit of account', 'store of value', and 'money' practical uses? Why have all civilizations settled on something to serve those purposes? Was it impracticality?
^^^because even dumb dumbs know that - unneeded to state the damm obvious p.s. still unpractical though any uffer qustions quezacotl?
Tokyo, beauty expo, 24K gold facials..... anybody ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97il8Lz0YrI&feature=related
Using your example as a guide to ignore economic practicalities and preciousness of gold, if I was living a self sufficient life I would use gold as cookware and easting utensils, gold would be wonderful to cook food in, excellent heating and clean-ability properties. Hot water piping would also be great with gold, as well as the sink for washing dishes, so easy to clean to a sparkle. I think my kitchen would be the place for lots of gold use.
Yeah well how about using gold foil to wipe our arses with and blow noses into? Ridiculous. List of practical (world) uses for Bicycles but don't mention riding one. List of uses for food, but not eating it
