I give up on this coin after learning from Coin Compendium there are 4 varieties of this coin. In fact I give up on MCC after all this varieties talk. I used to collect Australian pre-decimal varieties coins and enjoyed varieties a lot. But the varieties talk on the MCC is really annoying to me.

Bought this coin few months ago, and seller assured me it has been sent to NCS. No milk spot, no toning, no visible flaw viewing with naked eyes. A perfect coin for the grade. The haze like area on the photos are light reflection. It is hard to take photos with this type of mirror finish. Also the 3 lines beneath the dragon are not on the coin. No idea how it get into the photo.

However the holder has minor cosmetic flaw on the great wall side. The protection layer of hologram label has been partially peeled off. There also is an about 1.5cm hairline scratch on the holder.

My ebay id is malaya_banknotes. I also have sold some panda coins to member in this forum. If you need more references please let me know.

    Thanks for looking.

Thanks Fishball. I sold one on ebay for US$122.50 last week.

I really feel tired about all the varieties talk. For varieties coin to be worth the money and time to collect, it has to be visible to naked eyes, OR it signify a different mint with visible mint mark or significance design change, such as large or small date.

Reworked die, die crack, a tiny dot here and there is, WTF? That is by-product of human made small mintage coins. Will the varieties collector work on 2012 panda and be very proud when they found the 10000th varieties on this coin?

Reminds me of the fat man Yuan Shi Kai dollar which has over 400 varieties, and perhaps more. Who care? The only valuable varieties are those you can see the difference without requiring a loupe, and that is perhaps less than 10.

The 4 varieties found and documented on the 5 Jiao make me feel so sad.

Haha my thoughts exactly low. I can't tell if my 5oz Panda is cracked die or whatever and I don't care :/ (at least not enough to post pics up since I ain't selling)

Even the 92 LD/SD Pandas are hard to tell apart without a reference picture on the side (for me).

Heck I can't even tell my GOW is clouded claw even though it is. I am really terrible at these 'spot the difference' things.

I really have to wonder if there are enough collectors out there with this 'gotta have them all' mentality (pokemon?) because most of the Chinese collectors I've spoken with don't really care (they just want one or two of each coin if they're collecting).

    Variety fatigue.

Let's not go into the 7 varieties of 1999 BJ Expo Panda or the big/small army Kublai Khans or other HF...

    Hi Fishball,

This varieties game requires a lot of cooking and it can hardly be an evergreen game. You can't go very wrong with popular coin due to their design, theme, mintage, cultural or historical significance, etc etc. But one can go very wrong with a popular variety because this thing come and go. It requires lots effort to maintain the interest and hopefully the price. Not my game.

Thanks everyone. Griffon bought the coin.

not to drag out a point...... I received 8 1999 expo,s from a seller who neatly packaged them in all the different varieties spent all this time separating them ,which I appreciated, so I took the time to try to learn the difference, after 15 minutes my eyes where going buggy:):) I could not see any difference, frustrated I grabbed the roll of bubble wrap ,wrapped them up and tossed then in the box going to NCS :) I did enjoy looking at the beautiful coins though:)!!!!

Low is a trusted member on another coin forum and has posted a number of informative posts, so I have no hesitation in taking his offer. Lucky I decided to give SS forum a quick visit last night before hitting the hay :)

Many thanks Griffon for the kind words.

I am now completely free from MCC. Better be a keen watcher and learn about others collection than actually owning one myself.

Are you referring to the ones that tamo is selling ?

Truthfully i think having one of those ms 69 is good enough . At the end of the day , i do not think ebay sellers going to post those details up there when they sell.
Too small for comfort in those details .

Personally the ones going to make it in varieties are either frosted , mirror , small date and large date etc and not those broken dies , missing treasure boxes , mast not clear etc ..
But i do have fun looking at those pictures .. Not buying into them that all .

Hahaha. You still can find this coin in PF69 on ebay for $120 to $140.
