Am yet to have seen prices that better Perth Mints anywhere. Do they never offer any discount for bulk buys of the 10oz's?

no - it's hardly ever the cheapest place to purchase 10oz's (or anything else for that matter) once you factor in their cost of postage to you.

Far cheaper to buy off fellow stackers, but then again many here seem to prefer to pay more to their local dealer

or in the case of PM - their distant dealer

I must've had the perthmint site up for a while and not updated it, when I made this post I could've sworn they were listed at $314 for a 10oz. (now $320 odd)

And I will be in Perth soon enough, but point taken about the postage.

If you buy one bar off the mint it is expensive and you can't get the volume breaks. The Mint don't Use Australia Post and it costs about $17 to redirect your mail because unless you are at home all day, you will miss it.

A dealer can order hundreds, get the volume breaks and pass some of the savings on to you.

If you get in on a silver stackers group buy you get it cheaper than you can get it direct from the mint and as there is generally no middle man involved you get it cheaper than the dealers as well. However bars are not usually covered by group buys as they are boring and for about $10 extra you can get a 10oz dragon, which is sexy.

    So, yes and no.

    Sometimes cheaper.

Still seeing people put up 'bargain' prices of only $65 per 1oz Dragon, or 10oz bars for $330!

Your 10oz'ers come with postage included in that price?

I have always found Bullionbourse to be cheaper in Perth.

I agree about the forum atm, seems there are only a handful of people chasing realistic prices. Why would I pay more to buy off the forum when I can walk into a dealer and get it cheaper?

    +1.

I like Bullionbourse and tend to use them as a benchmark for prices (I don't live near a walk-up, OTC dealer).

Whenever I buy, it is from the cheapest seller I can find (forum or dealer).

Whenever I sell, I always list cheaper than Bullionbourse to give myself a chance.

I agree. The perth mints' iphone app still puts up prices for bars in discontinued sizes e.g.. 20oz silver bars, 1/2 oz gold blobs etc. I've found people on here are being rather unrealistic with prices they are chasing. Im buying bars right now but have found the smaller sizes can be bought off this forum for a better price. I don't buy into the "collectable" aspect of a recently discontinued size either. At the end of the day its just metal in a different size. Current PM price for 20oz bars is $625 (haven't seen one under $700 yet) 10oz bars $320 (haven't seen one this cheap on here either). There is a higher risk purchasing a bar on here than from the PM so I'd rather buy at the safer and currently cheaper option - Win/Win

    Silver Stackers sells bars?

Part of the problem with distributor pricing for cast Perth Mint bars is that they have far lower wholesale discounts than coins or minted bars - order less than 10, and a distributor gets charged retail. The absolute cheapest a distributor can get 10oz cast Perth Mint bars is *well* under $1/oz discount from retail. There's simply no economically feasible way of selling them at the Perth Mint bullion website prices, other than to compete on ease of dealing, service, postage and insurance costs.

So today I would be buying from the forum, because it is easier than buying from Perth Mint.

I assume you all are in Australia, but for anyone in the US I just received a 10 oz bar from Silvertowne and I'm very happy with the transaction.

No credit card fee and free shipping. Ordered Monday night and received US mail signature required on Thursday morning. Shipping price on package was $10.95.

Overall I'm quite pleased. Bar was slightly higher in cost than Provident NTR bar, but free shipping and no card fee made it cheaper.

And then the next day spot started to slide...

Just to stir the pot.. Perth has the reputation of being the most boring city in Aust,( Not much night life,no Clubs,Pokies etc). But wait,we've got a MINT....just walk straight in,talk to the nice ladies at the bullion desk( who have just enough strength to open the safe door) and whoopee buy whatever takes your fancy..no postage no risk and bulk buys as a discount
G'day fromW.A,the best place to live;)
