I saw that differences in this coin some time ago, but what I noticed is that "hair-line" on Panda shoulder-back is thicker one one "variety".

Is the bottom one satin panda?
I think the bottom one is 2003 big paw, but does big paw panda always has satin background?

Yes PCGS refers to as satin but I "think" the NGC will be "mirrored bamboo" which makes much more sense to me ... we shall soon see.

I have not really looked at the "big paw" theory yet so I do not know at the moment.

I have two 2003 panda in capsule not omp. The first capsule is the normal chinese with 3 points in triangle. The other dont have the triangle points. I dont secure at all. But i think the satin capsule is in the capsule dont have the triangle points.

These mirrored/satin varieties seem to be much more scarce , I have a few at ncs/ngc now but I doubt they will give them the attributes ,i sure hope they grade well.

Are you sure this is the satin/mirrored version it looks more like the frosted to me but it could be just the photo, the ones I have look more shiney and match the bamboo on the other side and the shiney leaves, just wondering . I will check the OMP as I still have it.

It could be just the photo angle but that is the correct OMP for the mirrored bamboo.

The common "frosted" are the Shenzhen Guobao OMP pouch

I'm not familiar with mint's seal pattern, 2003 satin comes from OMP pouch with triangle seal pattern which is according to catseye's picture comes from Shanghai mint.

Yep I checked same omp on mine , I believe this is actually Shanghai OMP but please correct me if I am wrong. Does anyone have a 2003 with shenyang OMP? I think photos on these can be deceptive , I bought one of mine on ebay that was really hard to tell by the photo but when I recived it sure enough it was the mirrored bamboo .
