I checked my credit card account this morning and saw a charge from Downies for $118. I was involved in the High Relief Dragon ordering fiasco with Downies in early March and had considered the order terminated. I have not received any notification from Downies that the order is active again and was wondering if anyone else has noticed a charge. I'll be calling Downies at 2 pm this afternoon PDT. And the beat goes on.
I also have a charge from Downies - i was also part of the high relief dragon fiasco - same as you BUT i also ordered a hedgehog from Eurocollections which is a division of Downies - I assume the charge is for the hedgehog (hoping at least!) Let us know what Downies have to say... thanks
I've seen several reports of & have one friend that were originally denied their purchase of the high relief dragon at Downies and received them in the last week shortly after a credit card charge was logged.
The fiasco = You place an order with Downies for a coin. They then claim they have run out of that coin. You then assume the order is cancelled. Sometime later you find out your credit card has been charged and that Downies have now been able to "locate" the stock you ordered. The issue is that this gives Downies the opportunity of a month or so to see if a coin has become popular above its issue price in the secondary markets. If it has (ie. $107 coin is selling for like $200) then there is an incentive for Downies not to honour your sale at $107 and shift their stock at the price of $200. Conversely after a month or so if the coin appears to be only worth its issue price or less, then Downies would have the incentive to "find" the stock your ordered and process your sale as its the best price they can achieve as the secondary market price is less than the issue price.
Talked with Downies in California and I should receive the coin in about a week. Communications is certainly not a priority with them.
They did the same to me and I sourced the coins elsewhere, although with me they sent me an email saying they payment bounced even though it went through, so I was able to call them up in time to tell them to insert their coin in a dark moist place. Will not be shopping there again.... And now they are sending me poop in the mail!!!!!!
Don't worry I won't be buying from them ever either I would prefer to give my 15% margin to the post office
Body of email received from Downies yesterday in response to my questions concerning CC charge. I'll believe I'm getting the coin when I've got the coin. "Thank you for your email query. I have looked into this for you and it does appear that you were sent the cancelation email in error. I apologise for the confusion and disappointment this has caused. I can confirm that we have been able to secure one of these coins for you and this was charged on the 2nd of April and your order was sent out to you this week. You should expect to receive this coin towards the end of next week. If you have subsequently sourced this coin from elsewhere and no longer wish to keep the one that we have sent out to you, please feel free to return your order to us and we will organise a full refund. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the confusion with your order. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries about this matter."
UPS just delivered but there was no signature required. Good thing I was home. And in the end Downies delivered though it was a bit of a circuitous route.
I also received a cancellation email from downies. No credit card charge as of now. My experience with eurocollections has been a good one.
My Downies High Relief dragon arrived today. No communication from Downies whatsoever. First and last time I will use them!
Don't worry though you will be getting communication from them once a month now that they have your mailing address.
